Who knew that subterranean caves and oil fields had so much in common? I sure didn’t. I also didn’t realize that Carlsbad, New Mexico was geographically part of the Permian Basin, which, if you don’t watch Landman and don’t know, is the massive sedimentary basin and highest producing oil field in the USA. It is primarily in West Texas near Midland and Odessa but also crosses over into SE New Mexico. [read more]

After dusting off our cowboy hats, boots, and shotguns (haha), we headed East finally to New Mexico. We spent a good six hours traveling I 10, a most familiar interstate for our family. It will eventually lead us all the way back home to our family in Jacksonville, but not until we finish a few more parks and must-sees along the way. Two more weeks of traveling and then it’s back to the grind of retirement life in Naples.

Gary and I have been to the Grand Canyon numerous times over the years, as have millions of visitors from all over the world. It is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World and for good reason.

This 2-Billion-year-old canyon stretches almost 300 miles across Arizona and is 18 miles wide. The canyon reaches a depth of 1 mile at the lowest point, as the massive and ancient colorful rock walls meet the mighty Colorado River. [read more]

The trip from Moab to Page, Arizona takes about five hours, not including scenic stops along the way. Traveling along south on US 191 and then onto US 160 west, you pass two of the most iconic landmarks in the West. [click to read more]

Driving South and West into Utah, we were encouraged to take a more scenic route. That’s all part of the adventure, after all. There is an awful lot of nothingness throughout our great country. Miles upon miles of mountains, dirt, farms and ranches, twisty turns and even abandoned ghost towns! [read more]
