45 years ago yesterday controllers walked off the job to demand better pay and a 32-hour work week. They were given an ultimatum, return to work or be fired.
Today, 45 years later, controllers are working mandatory 48 hour work weeks, managing record breaking levels of traffic, and are fighting for 2.8% annual pay bumps that don't even keep up with inflation.
They deserve better. We've failed to protect those that protect our skies.
