Arizona Trooper Stops Oversize Load on I-10 — Finds Driver With No CDL, No Insurance, No Permit, and 10 of 14 Brakes Inoperative; AZDPS Says Load Was 'Legitimately Unstoppable'; 32 Total Violations
PHOENIX, ARIZONA — An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper stopped an oversize load on Interstate 10 just east of the tunnel on May 28, 2026, and uncovered what the agency described as a laundry list of 32 violations — including no commercial driver's license, no insurance, no oversize permit, no certified pilot car, and 10 of 14 brakes completely inoperative.
The load was traveling from Mesa headed to Tonopah when a Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit trooper noticed the trailer had no lights and no flags — which turned out to be just the beginning. A full inspection of the combination revealed the 32 violations. With 10 of 14 brakes inoperative, AZDPS said the haul was "legitimately unstoppable."
The driver received numerous citations and the vehicle was towed.
"No CDL + No insurance + No brakes + No permit = No oversize load hauling," AZDPS said. "Oversize loads are a strategic move with every safety precaution in mind. For the safety of everyone on the road, please do not try to do this yourself."
