OCTOBER MEETING CANCELED...
Due to the recent hurricane Helene, the regular scheduled monthly meeting for Legion Post 56 in Marion, has been canceled for October. Our meeting facility is currently a residential shelter for victims of Hurricane Helene and is unable to accommodate the meeting. This is the McDowell County Salute to Veterans Wall, located between the McDowell County Senior Center and the McDowell YMCA. We have a limited number of Granite Bricks left, 87 to be exact, to be engraved with the name, rank and conflict served for a veteran you have in your family or as a friend. This Veterans Wall will be here for many generations to come. Honor a Veteran by getting in on the last few bricks still available before it's filled up and no other opportunity will be available to have your Veteran honored. The engraved granite bricks are $100.00 each.
If you would like to fill out an application, please contact me and I will send one to you. We can accept checks or cash. If you have any questions, also, please contact me.

American Legion Post 56 Members remember, our March monthly meeting will be on March 26, 2024 at St. Marks United Methodist Church in the Pleasant Gardens community. Start time is 6:00PM. We have several very important matters to discuss at this meeting. All Post Officers are expected to attend. All members are urged to attend. All veterans are welcome to attend. The Donald E. Davis Memorial Veterans Van Transportation System, (fka- American Legion Van Service) will resume services on July 5, 2021. McDowell County Military Veterans who qualify for this free transportation service can call 828-442-6334 Monday thru Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM to schedule a ride. All rides MUST be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance. Appointments need to scheduled between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Wearing a mask is at your discretion.

Unfortunately, due to the Governors Executive Order 121, we will continue to be CLOSED for transportation. We are a completely volunteer service. The Governors E.O. states that Social Distancing may/can help with lessening the spread of COVID-19. With this being said, we can not and will not put our drivers or other veterans in a situation that would go against that order.

We will continue our operations when this pandemic is contained and under control and our Great Country is back to a normal operating condition.

Thank you for understanding our situation and thank you for all of your support during this time.
