🚁A Day at the Airport: Inspiring Future Aviation Leaders✈️

Midwest ATC and the New Bedford Regional Airport recently welcomed students from the West Middle School in Brockton for an exciting, hands-on look at the world of aviation! These students learned about the many different career opportunities available in aviation. They received an up-close look at a Massachusetts State Police Helicopter, toured the Air Traffic Control Tower, visited NorEast Aviation Services, Inc., and explored our specialized Oshkosh Stryker Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting Vehicle.

The visit also included a showcase of some unique tools utilized by Airport Operations, including a pyrotechnics demonstration. These pyrotechnics are used to deter hazardous wildlife from the airport environment. 💥🦅

It was a great day of learning, exploring, and discovering! Who knows—maybe we met some future Pilots, Air Traffic Controllers, Airport Firefighters, or Airport Managers! ✈️👩‍✈️👨‍🚒

A special thank you to City of New Bedford Assistant Airport Manager Michael Crane, Tower Chief Joshua Rose, and Bridgewater State University CFI's Jason Vitale & Aaron Canali for their contributions on this exciting day!

🎉 The Feast of the Blessed Sacrament returns to the City of New Bedford July 30 through August 2! 🎉

We hope everyone has a wonderful time enjoying a warm Caçoila sandwich, a delicious glass of Madeira Wine, and, of course, a warm Malasada (or two)! 😋

While the Feast is a great place to make memories and capture photos, we want to offer a friendly reminder about drone use.

🚫 DRONES ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED 🚫

The Feast grounds are located within FAA-controlled airspace and more specifically, the New Bedford Class Delta Controlled airspace. Aircraft will be operating above the feast, as they arrive and depart the airport. Drones can pose a serious safety risk to aircraft and to people on the ground.

Flying a drone in controlled airspace without the required FAA authorization can result in serious consequences, including substantial fines and potential criminal penalties.

So, please be safe, have fun, enjoy the Feast—and keep the drones at home! ✈️🎉

📈 New Bedford Regional Airport continues to soar!

Through 2026, the City of New Bedford (Airport ID: EWB) ranks as the third busiest towered airport in Massachusetts by aircraft operations, trailing only Boston-Logan International Airport and Hanscom Field in Bedford.

From business jets and flight training to military operations, helicopters, and recreational flying, our airport is a vital hub for general aviation and an important economic engine for the South Coast. Every takeoff and landing represents people connecting, businesses growing, pilots training, and essential services reaching our community. We're proud of the role EWB plays in keeping Massachusetts moving through the skies.

Thank you to our pilots, controllers, operations personnel, tenants, and business partners for making EWB one of the most dynamic airports in the Commonwealth!

Today, we pause to remember and honor a valued member of our airport community. Nicholas F. Goselin, a 2019 BSU Aviation graduate, was shot and killed in Indonesia’s Highland Papua province by armed separatists shortly after landing in Balinggama village in the Yahukimo regency on Thursday. Goselin was a pilot for Indonesian aviation company, PT AMA.

PT AMA provides medical evacuation, Emergency response, Cargo and passenger transportation, as well as humanitarian flights to remote regions.

Following his graduation from Bridgewater State University, Nick went on to tow banners on Cape Cod, fly skydivers in the Virgin Islands, and conduct passenger transportation missions across Alaska. Nick had been flying with PT AMA since 2024 and in that time, touched so many lives by providing humanitarian aid to countless villages in some of the most challenging environments in the world.

Please join us in keeping his loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.
