New Parker 23 coastal in for a bottom job!

The most expensive sentence in boating may be, “You can have it for free.” It sounds like an opportunity until you start pricing the engine, standing rigging, sails, wiring, plumbing, paint, electronics, and the mysterious leak nobody mentioned.

A neglected boat does not arrive empty. It arrives carrying decades of deferred maintenance, questionable repairs, seized hardware, and at least one system installed by a previous owner who apparently hated future humans. By the time the boat is seaworthy, “free” has become a long-running family joke.

There is nothing wrong with rescuing an old boat. Just remember that the purchase price is often the least expensive part of ownership, especially when the purchase price is zero.
