TradeWinds Towing joined up with fellow industry partners in the Puerto Rico region and American Waterways Operators with the USCG in San Juan. Very productive think tank amongst all industry partner and USCG to improve on communication and shipping within this highly dynamic area. Open communication between industry and federal authorities in this region is always the best foot forward to not only commerce but safe transits.

At TradeWinds Towing, we’re all about bringing the adventure. Our Tug Rachel is heading for the bottom of the earth, towing a barge destined to become a permanent pier for the National Science Foundation. It’s a 9,000-mile journey from Portland, Oregon to McMurdo Station—and our team is ready.

The TradeWinds shoreside crew worked tirelessly to complete our ABS Polar Code Compliance and prepare the vessel for the extreme Antarctic environment.

The Rachel crew is fully ready—and excited—for this incredible expedition.

Along the way, Rachel will make bunker stops in Honolulu, Pago Pago, American Samoa, and Christchurch, New Zealand before making the final jump south.

It’s a huge undertaking, but at TradeWinds, we love a good challenge.
