Non-CDL Hotshot vs CDL Hotshot | Keep Loadings
https://youtube.com/shorts/EQkxF1X-4aI?feature=share

Thinking about jumping into the hotshot world but not sure if you should get your Class A or stay under the 26,001 lbs limit? In today's update, we’re settling the Non-CDL Hotshot vs CDL Hotshot debate once and for all.

A lot of drivers ask me if they can actually make a living with a non-CDL hotshot setup. The truth is, it's one of the easiest ways to get your foot in the door without the massive startup costs of a heavy rig. But, if you’re looking to scale and handle the heavy, high-paying freight, becoming a CDL hotshot driver is usually the natural next step.

We’re breaking down the real numbers on earnings, the weight limits you need to watch to avoid those nasty DOT fines, and the equipment you’ll need—from choosing the right dually to finding the best tarp for hotshot loads to keep your cargo protected.

If you’re just starting out, you might also be wondering how to keep your truck moving. Whether you’re running a pickup or looking for a box truck dispatcher, having a solid strategy for your load board is key to staying profitable in this market.

In this video, we cover:
1. Weight ratings (GVWR) and legal requirements.
2. Startup costs for CDL vs. Non-CDL.
3. The pros and cons of each path.
4. How to find the best loads and stay compliant.

💡 Drop a comment and let me know:
Are you staying Non-CDL for the flexibility, or are you going for the Class A to chase those bigger payouts?

CVSA Roadcheck 2026 is now over – Here is what every truck driver and owner operator needs to know
The 2026 CVSA International Roadcheck took place from May 12 to 14 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This year inspectors paid special attention to two major areas: ELD tampering and falsification, and proper cargo securement.
Early reports show a high number of violations and out-of-service orders, especially related to ELD issues and cargo not being properly secured. Many drivers and carriers got caught during the three-day blitz.
If you are an owner operator or run your own truck, now is the time to double-check these areas before the next inspection:
• Make sure your ELD logs are accurate and not manipulated
• Verify all cargo is secured correctly to prevent shifting, leaking, or falling
• Check brakes, lights, and paperwork every time
A single violation during Roadcheck week can put your truck out of service and cost you days of lost income.
Have you been inspected during this year’s Roadcheck? What violations did you see or experience? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
If you need help with proper dispatching, load booking, or staying compliant, feel free to reach out. We deal with these issues every day at KeepLoadings.
Stay safe out there.
