Last invite. Last chance. It’s a two parter. 1 of 2 here.

Tomorrow is it Mr. Mayor! Two shows. 11:30 and 1:30. In the New York Public Library. I would say it has been a dream but that would blur how wonderfully real this is. We made a performance in this incredible NYC resource, thousands of people have seen it and have been moved by it and yes of course one person complained to me about how we were ruining the library. I think this is an incredible model for what can happen when our civic institutions dare to break down some barriers and invite artists in to understand new ways to engage with our city. We would love to have you with us at either of our last shows tomorrow, Saturday April 25. I know it’s unlikely, but we have been so inspired by your work and we think this could return the kindness in a way.

A late night special evening invitation from a NYC public school fourth grader who asked if it was OK to send you a video together. There are two days left, four shows, we would love to see you there!

Mr. Mayor, today’s invitation comes from Anne Gridley, actor, artist, and all around one of the smartest, funniest New Yorkers you could meet. Her show Watch Me Walk was a masterclass in what it means to be a disabled New Yorker. Anne doesn’t suffer fools. She wants you here, with us, in the greatest free resource this city has, the New York Public Library.

It’s my honor to introduce you to my dad. He immigrated here from Ecuador as a kid. He grew up in Jackson Heights, he taught public school on the Lower East Side, sold slices in midtown, valet parked cars uptown. He has never seen anything like the free show we are doing twice a day in the library. He wants you to come and he’s worried if you miss this, you’ll miss a once in a lifetime NYC experience. It’s a longer video today and this is the edited version! DM if you want more of Robbie’s dad.

Anakeiry Cruz is a young artist and performer in NYC. She worked her c**o off at Hunter College. She can write, she can dance, she can get it done. But you know what? She almost left New York. Too expensive, too hard to live. Today she says she’s gonna stick it out, because of two things—1. You Mr. Mayor, nuestra alcalde and 2. Shows like the one we are doing at the library all week that remind why there’s no place like Nueva Yol.

Happy Monday morning Mr. Mayor. We are back to work, hoping to see you at the library this week, tell the team John is here getting the library ready for you!

04/19/2026

Good morning Mr. Mayor. We are taking today off, hope you are too. We will be back at NYPL next week, twice a day, everyday. We would love to see you as we tell the stories of everyday New Yorkers finding solace in the collections of one of the greatest resources in our city.

We have two shows today. Take a break, take an hour out of your day, take a stroll around the library with us, take this advice from the amazing artists and actors Kathryn Grody, Claire Danes, and Hugh Dancy. Claire said it’s one of the best things she’s seen in her life, Hugh said it couldn’t be more New York! Kathryn said it’s the most friggin incredible event! Come see what they’re talking about! We would love to have both of you with us in the library.
