This year is the 50th anniversary of the show, and Macy’s has announced that the fireworks will be launched from both the lower East River and the lower Hudson River, with the Brooklyn Bridge serving as a centerpiece. That means spectators on both the East Side and the West Side will have excellent viewing opportunities.

* You might catch the highest fireworks from parts of the West Side if you have an elevated, unobstructed view.

* However, the West Side is generally not considered one of the best places because buildings block much of the lower display, and the experience isn’t nearly as good as being on the East River.
