This week, NYMTC staff participated in the Institute for Traffic Safety Management & Research's Walk, Bike and Roll NY Symposium, a two-day conference centered around active mobility and accessible transportation systems.

The Symposium featured a presentation led by NYMTC's Mark Maglienti, Assistant Director, Planning and Program Management, and David Lake, Transportation Conformity & Planning Program Support in Mid-Hudson South Transportation Coordinating Committee, on the Palisades Shared Use Feasibility Study. During the presentation, Mark and David shared best practices communities can use to advance active transportation infrastructure.

Mark and Sandra Reyes Guerra, NYMTC’s New York City Unit Staff Director, also led a walking tour which showcased several transportation projects around the Tarrytown area, including the Old Croton Aqueduct and the Route 9 and Broadway Complete Streets.

Save the date! NYMTC’s next Program, Finance and Administration (PFAC) meeting is on 6/18 at 11:30 am and is open to the public.

This bi-monthly business meeting will also feature a presentation on NYMTC’s Community Planning Workshop Program (CPWP), which helps municipalities identify transportation strategies that support their local priorities and regional mobility.

David Drits, Senior Transportation Analyst at NYMTC, and Miriam Salerno, Managing Director of the Placemaking, Outreach and Engagement Team (POET) at Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center, Rutgers University, will share highlights from recent CPWP projects across the region.

As we approach the nation’s 250th anniversary, NYMTC’s Transportation Innovation Series is exploring notable, historic transportation advancements in our planning region. This week, we’re going back in time to twentieth-century New York City!

Today, students in the 2025-2026 cohort of NYMTC’s September 11th Memorial Fellowship Program met at our downtown office to share ideas and learn more about NYMTC’s role in transportation planning.

The September 11th Memorial Fellowship Program for Regional Transportation Planning honors the memory of three NYMTC staff members who perished in the World Trade Center attacks: Ignatius Adanga, Charles Lesperance, and See Wong Shum.

We were thrilled to connect with the fellows and look forward to the cohort’s presentations this September. Stay tuned for more info!

Next stop: Brooklyn Bridge! This week, we’re highlighting the Brooklyn Bridge—one of the world’s most iconic bridges—as part of NYMTC’s Transportation Innovation Series.

In May 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge officially opened to the public as the world’s longest suspension bridge at the time. Over 140 years later, the Brooklyn Bridge endures as an iconic piece of infrastructure not only in the NYMTC region, but around the globe.
