Workers Walk Off--
Port of New York and New Jersey workers walked off the job.
The walkout began about 10 a.m., and reportedly is affecting all port terminals. Please do not send your trucks to the port or wait on queus outside of terminals
Trucking company dispatchers advised drivers to avoid joining queues outside terminal gates.
According to JOC this is due to ILA unhappiness with hiring rules of the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor, which oversees port hiring.

US Shipping Port Congestion Crisis
For months, representatives of about 20,000 members of the International Longshoremen’s Association and their employers have been negotiating a six-year labor contract. The lack of success in the talks, now more than four months old, is slowing down ahead of the economically important U.S. holiday shopping season. Those concerns, in turn, are driving an increasing number of shippers to seek alternatives to U.S. West Coast ports.
Many ocean carriers filed Port Congestion Surcharges in their FMC tariffs earlier this year.
Affected ports are on the West Coast, including Oakland, Long Beach, ports of Seattle and Tacoma in Washington state.
