Electricity Without Wires? Finland Is Testing What Sounds Like Science Fiction.

For more than a century, electricity has depended on one simple thing: wires.

But researchers in Finland are exploring a future where electrical energy could travel through the air instead. ⚡

Scientists at the University of Helsinki and the University of Oulu have demonstrated a technique using ultrasonic waves to create a controlled path through the air, allowing an electrical spark to follow that invisible route.

It sounds futuristic but this is only one piece of a much bigger wireless-power puzzle.

Researchers are also exploring laser-based power transmission, which could someday deliver energy to locations where physical cables are difficult, expensive, or dangerous to install.

Imagine sending power across a gap without running a cable through it.

There is another possibility already being explored: radio-frequency energy harvesting. Tiny devices can capture small amounts of energy from electromagnetic waves already present in their surroundings, potentially allowing sensors to operate without constantly replacing batteries.

The technology still faces major challenges. Efficiency, safety, range, and practical energy delivery all need to be solved before wireless electricity becomes a mainstream replacement for cables.

But the direction is fascinating.

The electrical grid of the future might not look like today's.

James Bedford was a psychology professor from California who became the first person to undergo cryonic preservation after death.

When he died from kidney cancer in January 1967, supporters of the emerging cryonics movement preserved his body in the hope that future medical technology might one day be able to cure his illness and reverse death itself.

Cryonics is based on the idea that a person who cannot be saved by current medicine may be preserved at extremely low temperatures until more advanced treatments become available.

Bedford's body was eventually placed in long-term storage at about −196°C using liquid nitrogen.

What makes his case remarkable is that he remains preserved today, making him the longest-running cryonics patient in history.

In 1991, an inspection of his body reportedly found that it was still in relatively good condition after more than two decades of storage.

However, no human or large animal has ever been revived after cryonic preservation.

Phone thieves in London have reportedly become so picky that some are actually giving stolen phones back when they realize they are not iPhones.

In several reported cases, thieves snatched phones from people in the street, checked what model they had taken, and then immediately lost interest.

One victim said the thieves handed his Samsung back and told him:

“Don’t want no Samsung.”

Another person reportedly had their phone grabbed by a thief on an e-bike.

The thief looked at the device, realized it was a Samsung, and threw it back onto the pavement.

The reason is surprisingly simple.

Resale value.

Stolen iPhones can fetch high prices on second-hand and overseas black markets, making them especially attractive to phone thieves.

Some Android phones are still valuable, of course.

But criminals appear to know exactly which models are worth the most.

There have even been reports of thieves rejecting older iPhones because they are not valuable enough.

London has struggled with huge numbers of phone thefts in recent years, with thieves often targeting people using their devices near roads and pavements.

But apparently, even criminals now have brand preferences.

Imagine having your phone stolen...

Only for the thief to look at it and decide it is not good enough to steal.

I Tell People, Silence Is Not Always Golden.

For many Nigerians, this is about more than music. Some believe that during periods of xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa, Tyla remained publicly silent. To them, that silence was disappointing, especially at a time when many expected influential South African voices to speak against the violence.

The reported cancellation of Tyla's planned show in Lagos has sparked mixed reactions.

Whether you agree or not, this situation reminds us that public figures are often remembered not only for what they say, but also for what they choose not to say.

As Martin Luther King Jr. once said:

«"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."»

At the same time, it's important to remember that people hold different opinions. Some believe artists should stay out of politics, while others believe they have a responsibility to speak out against injustice.

What do you think? Should celebrities speak up when innocent people are being attacked, or should they remain neutral?
