Catawba County Emergency Medical Services provides a full array of pre-hospital medical care including advanced life support, basic life support, specialty care transports, non-emergency transports, and supports a number of specialty teams. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of pre-h

ospital care to our citizens and visitors to our county. Catawba County EMS has been recognized for our services with several awards, including our most recent American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Award. A division of Catawba County Emergency Services, Catawba County EMS works closely with local rescue squads, fire departments, hospitals, and other agencies within the county. Our ambulances are staffed with Paramedics, Advanced EMTs, and EMTs. Representatives of Catawba County Government communicate via this website. Consequently, any communication via this site is considered public (whether by a county employee or the general public) and may be subject to monitoring and disclosure to 3rd parties.

Today, we had the honor of surprising Paige Walker alongside Hickory City Schools staff, Catawba County Emergency Services personnel, and a representative from Horton & Mendez, Attorneys at Law, PLLC, with some exciting news—she has been named the Second Place Winner in the statewide Best of NC Heroes 2026 Contest!

Paige received the second-highest number of votes among more than 800 votes cast across 30 North Carolina counties. The contest, created by Horton & Mendez Cares, recognizes everyday heroes who make a meaningful impact in their communities.

As a CTE teacher at Hickory Career and Arts Magnet High School and a dedicated paramedic with Catawba County EMS, Paige exemplifies what it means to serve others. Her commitment to educating future healthcare professionals while continuing to care for our community through EMS has inspired countless students, colleagues, patients, and community members.
