Fall is our busy season! And we've been really busy! We've scheduled two trains to Crawford seven days a week, plus up to five Valley Trains daily to Conway.

Stunning fall foliage through New Hampshire’s Crawford Notch has led to busy days for Conway Scenic Railroad!
We’ve been running extra trains and adding extra cars to help accommodate the demand for seats on our popular Mountaineer excursion from North Conway to Crawford Notch. Some trains have even required three locomotives to make the climb!

Today, Gertrude Emma is one of the oldest operating passenger cars in the United States. This beautifully restored Victorian-era car features classic seating and openable windows for an authentic old-fashioned railroading experience.

Fifty-Two Years on the Roll!

On this day fifty-two years ago—August 4th, 1974—Conway Scenic Railroad operated its first public excursions. During its first two decades, the railroad's excursion operation was centered on the old Boston & Maine Conway Branch between North Conway and the Conway freight house. Today, this line is operated seasonally as the Valley Train excursion.

The railroad has since expanded, and today Conway Scenic offers a variety of experiences across two distinctly different historic routes. Since the mid-1990s, Conway Scenic has also run excursions on the old Mountain Division over Crawford Notch — today operated as the railroad's flagship Mountaineer, our premier scenic journey.

Conway Scenic's summer offerings include the comedy train Off the Rails on Friday afternoons, and the popular Murder on the Rails, running Saturday afternoons. Seasonal excursions include a variety of winter trains, including the Winter Mountaineer, which runs select weekend dates during snow season, and the popular Snow Train! excursions — 1-hour trips running weekends and holidays after Christmas through early March.
