What do we recommend at Lee-Lee's Crosswinds Cafe? That’s tough… Probably the Warthog or B-52 for breakfast, or maybe biscuits and gravy… No, actually anything with pancakes, or possibly French toast. Must have the homemade jams. You know what, just look at the menu yourself! 😊

We love seeing aircraft lined up on the ramp as several pilots stopped by MKG this morning to enjoy breakfast at Lee-Lee's Crosswinds Cafe! Just like boaters might cruise to a waterfront dinner on Muskegon Lake, aviators often do the same at airports with restaurants.

The best part is, it’s open to the public! Have you stopped by to check out the new food yet? If not, you’re missing out. Open 7-days a week from 6 AM - 2 PM.

With nearly 1,100 acres of grass to maintain, keeping the airfield mowed is a never-ending effort. Even with both tractors running 12-14 hrs a day, it takes our team about 5 full days to make a complete pass across the entire airport.

It isn’t just about appearance either. Proper grass height is one of the most important tools we have for wildlife management; it helps to significantly reduce the attraction for rodents, predators, birds and other animals that can create hazards for aircraft.

Good chance you you’ll see our crew out on the field while you’re taxing for takeoff on your next flight - give them a wave!

Seaplane launch! Just like a boat, seaplanes come out of the water for winter storage. But a true seaplane doesn’t have wheels, so it can’t simply taxi out to the runway and take off once spring time rolls around.

This is how we launch. As the truck accelerates, it gives the aircraft airspeed over the wings — the basic ingredient every airplane needs to fly. Once the truck hits about 65-70 mph, the wings produce enough lift to fly and the pilot can lift right off the trailer to head back to the water.

Pretty cool aviation science in action right here at MKG!

Heavy fog pushed MKG down to minimums last night, with visibility dropping to 1/2 mile and ceilings around 200 feet. Conditions like this are exactly why pilots train extensively for instrument flying. Those skills, when paired with critical airport infrastructure such as runway lighting and the instrument landing system, allow pilots to get their aircraft on the ground safely when Mother Nature really doesn’t want to cooperate.
