Customer came over with his Mercury 8hp 4-stroke on his drift boat. The front primer bulb was bad. He's heading to Diamond Lake tomorrow and needed it fixed. I had one in stock, he came over, I replaced it. I also noticed the engine wasn't clamped down all the way (was wiggly), so I tightened that down for him. His steering tensioner was also loose (would still fairly easily turned in the tightened position), so I tightened down the nut. It's now easy to turn with it in the loose position, and stays in place in the tightened position.

2005/06 Mercury (Yamaha) 15hp short shaft 4-stroke. Customer recently purchased it, running issues, was missing the drain plug gaskets, he installed new ones, he went through the carb, still has running issues.

I checked things out. Engine oil looks good. Gear oil was milky. I replaced it. The spark plugs were fouled. I replaced those. Removed the carb, disassembled it, and inspected everything. 1 of the 2 main fuel jets were clogged, some crud in the filter in the carb, the accelerator pump plunger diaphragm was cracked, the o-rings were squished, and I think that's it.

I removed the brass cap to gain access to the mixture needle. I went through the carb. Cleaned & cleared everything. Installed new plunger & o-rings. Put everything back together and on the engine. Put the engine in water. Primed the fuel system, no fuel leaks. Ran the engine, tuned the carb, adjusted the idle, and all is good now. Running good, pumping water good, shifting good, etc.

Customer came over with his lower unit from a 2002 Honda 9.9hp. He got a water pump kit from Amazon and the impeller broke. I had a new OEM here, so I told him to swing it by. The metal plate was bent, so I replaced that. Installed the new impeller and showed him how to do everything. I checked the gear oil and it still looks great. I also gave him some tips for reinstall. 🤙🏽

2011 Yamaha T9.9GPLH. Customer wanted me to do basic maintenance on it and check things out. He also said he heard rattling going on and removed the lower cowling and metal pieces came out.

I visually inspected the engine and she's a salty one. I removed the lower cowling and took some pictures and videos. Salt water ate through the upper exhaust system. That issue will have to be fixed before anything. But to fix it, especially being a salty engine, it won't be cheap. He might want to invest into a newer engine VS dumping money into this one.

I have to chat with the customer after they get back from Cabo.

2012 Yamaha F150XA. Customer wanted me to do a basic maintenance on it and also replace whatever I see that should be replaced.

I hooked-up to the engine and pulled the hours and stuff. No new fault codes. Engine shows 845hrs on it. 677.1hrs from between 0-1000rpms! The dash meter reads 838hrs on it. I last serviced this engine on 3-7-2024. A little over 2yrs 3mo and 187hrs ago. A little over the 100hr recommended service interval.

New engine oil. New oil filter. I put the date & engine hrs on the filter. New gear oil. I cleaned the magnetic drain plug prior to install. New spark plugs. I gapped them prior to install. The top 2 plugs were more fouled than the bottom 2 plugs. When inspecting the engine I noticed the top bolt that holds the fuel rail was over ¼in out! Only 2 bolts holding the fuel rail on. I tightened it down and hopefully that will resolve why the top 2 spark plugs are more fouled than the bottom 2. New thermostat & housing gasket. I cleaned the inner & outer housings prior to install. I also wire brushed & greased the housing bolts. New trim tab anode. New main anode under the hydraulics. I wire brushed & greased those bolts prior to install. The fuel filter still looks good. Not discolored or anything. New fuel water separating filters in the boat. I filled them with non-ethanol fuel and put a light layer of marine grease on the rubber gasket. I put the date & engine hrs on those filters, as well. Primed the fuel system, no fuel leaks. Ran the engine, and all is good.
