This isn't a machine problem... this is an operator error. 🤦‍♂️💦

Seadoos are great machines, but they cannot survive if you force them to drink half the bay! When a ski is flipped the wrong way, flipped upside down for too long or towed incorrectly, water goes exactly where it shouldn't: straight into the engine block.

The result? A hydro-locked engine shooting water out of the cylinders like a fountain. ⛲💸

The Golden Rule: If you roll your ski, always look at the warning sticker on the back and flip it the correct way and quickly! If it does take on water, DO NOT keep trying to start it. Bring it to a certified marine mechanic immediately so we can get the water out before the internals rust.

It looks like this Sea-Doo Spark grew a tail! 😂🪢

We had this Spark on the forklift in the Odyssea shop, and it looked like it had an umbilical cord hanging out the bottom. I crawled underneath, and sure enough... a massive tow rope got sucked straight into the jet pump and wrapped completely around the driveshaft.

This is one of the most common mistakes out on the water! Always turn off your engine when you are reeling in your tubes, wakeboards, or tow lines. The suction from these jet pumps will grab a slack line in a heartbeat and wrap it around the driveshaft tighter than you can imagine.

Well, time to get the tools and cut this mess out! 🔪🔧

Every marine mechanic’s worst nightmare: The Medieval Jet Ski W3apon! ⚔️😂

When you pull your jet pump and slide it back onto a dry driveshaft, you are asking for absolute misery. Saltwater and friction will cause the metal splines to corrode, and your impeller will permanently seize to the shaft. At that point, you basically have a battle axe on your hands!

A 10-second prep step changes everything. In the Odyssea shop, we strictly use Bel-Ray waterproof grease. Just take a small paintbrush and coat the driveshaft splines before reassembly. It creates a heavy-duty barrier that keeps everything moving the way it should and stops the saltwater from welding your parts together.

Grease your splines so your pump actually comes off the next time you need to do maintenance!

This is exactly what happens when you run a Seadoo on the trailer for 5 minutes with NO WATER! 🛑🔥

The exhaust waterbox and plastic resonator are completely melted down.

Never run your ski dry for more than 10 seconds! If you need to run it longer to diagnose an issue or flush it out, you MUST hook up the hose.

When a customer says their ski suddenly lost all power........I think we found out why! 😂🧢

We pulled the pump off this ski in the Odyssea shop and found a completely shredded hat jammed straight into the impeller. It’s an easy mistake to make, but always double-check your footwells and make sure all loose gear is locked away before you hit the throttle. The suction on these jet pumps will grab anything that blows into the water!

This Seadoo GTX Wake Pro came into the Odyssea shop, and the corrosion under the seat is absolutely wild. 🧟‍♂️🌊

We don't even know the full backstory on this one yet, but it looks like it sat outside exposed to the elements for years. Our first step is tossing a new throttle body on it just to see if we can even get it to crank over, but we have our work cut out for us.

Saltwater and neglect will absolutely destroy these machines if you don't take care of them. Don't let your ski end up looking like this!

HOW TO REPLACE A SEADOO CARBON RING: Here is the complete step-by-step breakdown on how to replace a Sea-Doo carbon ring! 🛑🌊

If you checked your drive shaft seal and that carbon ring bevel is completely worn flat, you cannot put that ski back in the water. That is the # 1 reason Sea-Doos take on water and sink.

In this video, we walk you through the exact process we use in the Odyssea Shop to pull the pump, back the drive shaft out, and swap in a brand-new carbon ring and metal hat to get that watertight seal back to 100%. It takes some wrenching, but doing this preventative maintenance will literally save your $15,000 machine from ending up at the bottom of the bay.

This tiny part is the # 1 fear for every single Sea-Doo owner! 🛑🌊

You don't need to be a master mechanic to keep your ski from sinking, you just need to do a simple visual inspection of your carbon ring. This ring and the metal hat push together to create a watertight seal around your drive shaft.

On a healthy carbon ring, you will see a distinct, thick bevel. But when that bevel wears completely flat—or worse, the metal hat starts sinking INTO the carbon ring like the bad one we show here—that seal is completely broken.

You don't even need to put it in the water to know it's going to leak. If your carbon ring looks like this, it needs to be swapped ASAP before you ruin a $15,000 machine.

Check your rings before every season! And if you need it fixed, get it into the Odyssea bays.
