Silverton Central

Silverton Central Silverton Central (Sn3) is an 8 by 24 foot modular railroad has been displayed all over the country in a scale of 1:64. On Display in Odessa, FL.

It was started in 1996. It was never intended to be a modular railroad. It was just something that evolved in a modular direction. I started with a six foot 1 x 12 board and had a couple of HO Structures and scenery. I set it on a table and ran an Sn3 Shay with sound back and forth. The public went nuts. I knew I might be on to something ! Then a friend, ( the late Carl Touzzo ) saw what I was doi

ng and built a module to put the board in. Then He built three more and I built a trestle on one of them. The rest as they say is history. It is 100% scenic which was finished if a model railroad is ever finish in 2004. It has many scratch built structures and spectacular scenery. I am constantly updating and adding structures. I also clean the layout regularly to keep it looking fresh. My good friend Steve Kibort is now adding lights to my structures. It has changed everything. The Silverton Central has won many national awards and now proudly resides in the Suncoast Center for Fine Scale Modeling. It will be open during the 2016 Sn3 Symposium.

Sorry I haven’t posted like I should ! This is the first backdrop I painted. I’m working on the second one now. Bob Ross was a big inspiration and his videos were very helpful along with the artist Greg Grey.

This is a scratch built engine by Rick Guzy. I just finished having it tweaked out with all the bells and whistles. Enjoy. It’s Sn3 of course.

Hello everyone I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me. Anyway here’s a little something to share with you. I discovered that you could make very realistic foam rocks by simply using the serrated knife and cutting into a block up foam and then breaking it off. Then you finish it up by carving and breaking off more pieces until it looks something like a rock. Gray foam works well but you could also use pink or blue. When you got enough rocks to your liking then you simply paint them black. Then you can proceed to Drybrush your colors on depending on what color you want to rocks to end up being. ( raw sienna, tan, brown, gray, off-whites etc. )The only thing Is when you start dry brushing go from darker to lighter in colors as you go. The boat in this scene was designed by Frank Palmer and it is made entirely of card stock. It was weather and the rotting wood was out of where the wood burner. Mostly artist or oil washers was used to color it.
