FMCSA Enforcement: What Drivers Need to Know

In September 2026, FMCSA participated in a coordinated overnight enforcement operation across South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida—and the numbers got our attention.

According to information released by FMCSA on September 30, inspectors conducted 552 commercial vehicle inspections, resulting in 78 drivers and 25 vehicles being placed out of service.

The inspections covered several areas, including driver credentials, fatigue, ELD compliance, distracted driving, cargo securement and English-language proficiency. Of the 78 driver out-of-service orders, 12 involved English-language proficiency violations.

While these numbers are from a September enforcement operation, they're a good reminder of just how quickly a routine roadside inspection can become an out-of-service situation.

For professional drivers, preparation matters: know your equipment, keep your credentials and ELD in order, secure your load properly and make sure you're ready when an inspection comes your way.
Drivers — have you noticed roadside inspections becoming more frequent or more thorough lately?

ELD DEADLINE: Are you ready? 🚨

FMCSA removed five electronic logging devices from its list of registered ELDs on August 6, 2026, after determining they failed to meet minimum federal requirements.

Carriers and drivers were given 60 days to replace the affected devices—and that deadline is October 6, 2026

The five affected devices are Moonlight ELD, HGRS ELD, Highest ELD, Truckford ELD and Sparkle ELD.

Beginning October 6, drivers who continue using one of these revoked devices may be treated as operating without a compliant ELD. That could mean a citation and potentially being placed out of service under CVSA criteria.

Even if your ELD isn't on this list, this is a good reminder to make sure the device you're running is still on FMCSA's Registered ELD list.

Drivers and carriers—have you ever checked to make sure your ELD is still registered with FMCSA?
