OSS agents operating behind enemy lines in Occupied France relied on compact clandestine radios to stay connected with Allied headquarters.
The SSTR-1 became one of the OSS's standard sets. Its transmitter, receiver and power supply could be packed inside an ordinary-looking suitcase.
German radio-direction-finding teams actively hunted clandestine transmissions, forcing operators to send encrypted Morse traffic quickly, shut down and move.
By 1944, OSS personnel were parachuting into France to work directly with Resistance networks ahead of and after D-Day and these radios were often the only link between those teams and Allied command.

In 1944, the OSS published the Simple Sabotage Field Manual—a guide for citizens in occupied territories who wanted to disrupt the N**i war effort. The manual advised to deliberately work slowly, make foolish decisions in business meetings, insist on doing things through complex proper channels, and create endless bureaucratic red tape to grind enemy operations to a halt. It’s rumored that in the late 80s it was republished as an orientation manual for DA Civilians assigned to CIF.

To mark the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, we released a series of shirts depicting the Stained Glass Windows of Normandy. We thought it was fitting to continue that series and marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11 by featuring the Stained Glass Window from the Pentagon Memorial Chapel.
