BREAKING: FLOODING WASHES AWAY PART OF I-70 IN INDIANA — WESTBOUND INTERSTATE CLOSED 🌊🚛
📍 WAYNE COUNTY, INDIANA — I-70 WEST AT MILE MARKER 146
This is not your typical flooded-highway closure.
The Indiana Department of Transportation says the roadway itself has been WASHED AWAY on Interstate 70 westbound in Wayne County.
🚨 ALL WESTBOUND LANES ARE CLOSED.
The closure is located just east of Centerville Road near mile marker 146 as severe flooding impacts the interstate.
INDOT says crews cannot yet determine the full extent of the damage.
They have to wait for the water to recede before they can even assess what repairs will be necessary.
That means there is currently no confirmed reopening timeline.
🚛 TRUCKERS RUNNING I-70 WEST: DO NOT CONTINUE TOWARD THE CLOSURE.
INDOT’s official detour is:
➡️ U.S. 27
➡️ U.S. 36
➡️ State Road 9
➡️ Back to I-70
For commercial drivers especially, expect significant disruption through this corridor while traffic from one of the country’s major east-west freight routes is pushed onto alternate highways.
And if you encounter standing water elsewhere tonight:
DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH IT.
Water depth can be impossible to judge at night, and in this case we’re looking at a very good demonstration of why. There might not be much roadway underneath it anymore.
