Hello everyone!
I’m Malachi, the owner and founder of FYND here in Pensacola. It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself, so I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself, my wife, and our business.
My name is Malachi Moulden, and I’ve lived here in Pensacola since sometime before 2018. Honestly, when we do the math, we still can’t figure out exactly when I moved here. 😂
My wife, Abigail Moulden, was born and raised right here in beautiful Pensacola, and together we own and operate FYND.
Almost three years ago, we started this journey with one goal: to separate ourselves from Uber and Lyft by providing more predictable pricing, cleaner vehicles, better customer service, and an overall better transportation experience.
Like every new business, our first year was spent figuring things out. At the time, our goal was simple: save people money while still being fair. We would look at what Uber or Lyft was charging, apply a discount, and that became our price.
Last year, we completely redesigned our pricing system. One thing that surprised us was that many of the customers who had been with us since the beginning actually told us to raise our prices because they felt we were undervaluing what we offered. In many cases, we were charging more than 50% less than Uber and Lyft.
Now, as we approach our third year in business, I can honestly say that we won’t always be cheaper than Uber or Lyft. Some people may wonder why.
The truth is that our pricing is built differently.
We charge less in fees, less per mile, and keep our pricing as straightforward as possible. Uber and Lyft use dynamic pricing, where their AI adjusts fares based on many different factors. Uber has publicly discussed that pricing can be influenced by factors such as supply and demand, trip details, and other marketplace signals. There have also been reports and studies suggesting pricing can vary based on things like the neighborhood you’re requesting a ride from or even the payment method being used, including premium credit cards. Whether every factor applies to every ride or not, the reality is that prices on those platforms can change dramatically from one minute to the next.
With FYND, our pricing is simple:
• Flat $5 service fee
• Minimum fare of $15 or $20, depending on the vehicle
• $2.00 or $2.50 per mile, depending on the vehicle
The only dynamic pricing we have is a flat $15 after-hours fee.
“What are your hours?”
Our standard operating hours are Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
“So you aren’t open 24/7?”
Actually, we are. Every ride simply needs to be scheduled at least 8 hours in advance. That allows us to properly plan our schedule and continue providing reliable service, even in the middle of the night.
One thing we’ve learned over the last few years is that many of our customers aren’t simply looking for the lowest price—they’re looking for reliability.
A large portion of our customers are traveling to and from Pensacola International Airport, often leaving for work at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning or getting home late at night. Those are also the times when Uber and Lyft prices are often at their highest, and when finding a driver can sometimes be difficult.
We’ve seen countless Facebook posts from people asking things like, “I have to be at work at 4 AM. Does anyone know an alternative to Uber?” or “I can’t get anyone to pick me up from the airport.”
That’s where we come in.
When you’ve scheduled your ride with us, we’re there. That’s why many of our regular customers tell us they’re happy to pay a little more if it means they know someone they trust will actually show up when nobody else will.
One of the biggest benefits of our pricing is consistency.
A ride from Pensacola International Airport (PNS) to Pensacola Beach during our normal hours is approximately:
🚗 FYND X: Around $28
🚐 FYND XL: Around $37.50
After hours:
🚗 FYND X: Around $43
🚐 FYND XL: Around $52.50
For comparison, I’ve attached a screenshot from Uber taken today (Thursday around 3:30 PM).
At that moment:
🚗 Uber X: Around $37
🚐 Uber XL: Around $66
Sometimes we’ll be cheaper.
Sometimes we’ll be about the same.
Occasionally, we may even cost a little more.
But what we strive to provide every single time is predictable pricing, clean vehicles, dependable service, and the peace of mind that comes from booking with a locally owned company that truly values every customer.
To everyone who has supported us over the past three years, thank you. Your trust has allowed us to keep growing, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
