Day #5 of the Mackinaw Island in June afforded the opportunity of a step on guide who guided us through the historic town of Mackinaw City stopping for a self guided tour of the Old Mackinaw City Lighthouse which was built in the 1800’s. We ended the day with some shopping in the quaint downtown of Historic Mackinaw City.

This morning we visited the National Civil War Museum and got a fascinating look at the people, stories, and artifacts from one of the most important times in American history. From uniforms and weapons to personal letters and keepsakes, the exhibits helped bring the Civil War to life. A must stop for anyone traveling through Harrisburg, PA.

Sadly our Beautiful Maine trip is nearing the end. Every great trip is about more than the sights we see—it’s about the memories we make together! Some of our favorite moments that happened between the scheduled stops: the spontaneous dancing, endless laughter, inside jokes, card games, bus banter, and a few harmless shenanigans along the way. These are the moments that turn fellow travelers into friends and make a great trip truly unforgettable. Thanks to everyone for bringing the fun and helping create memories we’ll be smiling about for years to come!

Another great day with America’s castles & mansions
Today we went to the Fonthill Castle built between 1908-1912. This is truly magnificent and pictures did it no justice
We had our lunch break at Peddler’s Way and enjoyed some of the sand sculptures representing our 250th anniversary
Finally it was off to see where Washington crossed the Delaware and learn about the battle of Trenton

We made it to Porto, Portugal and boarded our home for the next 7 nights!! On the way we stopped in Fatima and visited the Santuary of Fatima which is one of the world's most significant Catholic pilgrimage sites. Next we stopped in Coimbra and visited the University of Coimbra which is the oldest University in Portugal and arguably one of the continuous operations in the world. Ready to head to bed and start our journey up the Douro River in the morning.

Yesterday was a wonderful day exploring the best of Portland and the southern Maine coast. We began with a guided tour of Portland, learning about the city’s rich maritime history and seeing many of its historic neighborhoods and waterfront landmarks. A highlight of the morning was our visit to Victoria Mansion, one of the finest examples of Victorian architecture in America. Afterward, everyone enjoyed free time in downtown Portland to shop, stroll the cobblestone streets, visit local boutiques, or simply soak in the charm of Maine’s largest city.

In the afternoon, we made our way to the iconic Portland Head Lighthouse, where breathtaking ocean views and one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country provided the perfect backdrop for pictures and memories. Before returning to the hotel, we wrapped up the day with a sweet stop at Len Libby Candies, famous for its delicious chocolates and Lenny, the life-sized chocolate moose. It was a day that perfectly captured the charm and character of Maine. 🦞🌲🏖️🍫
