Hi SCRM LRV Fans,

Yesterday we did some testing with LA Metro 144 after the overhead was adjusted. The Line crew still has some more adjustments to make. The LRV fleet is currently out of service until the overhead adjustments allow for safe travel of the LRV Pantographs. While the overhead repairs are going we are working on repairs and maintenance to all 3 LRV’s. If anyone is interested in helping maintain the LRV’s, please reach out or contact the bookstore at the Southern California Railway Museum. We will try and keep you updated on the LRV’s.

Thanks to John’s Tales From The Rails for the video of LA Metro 144 being put away after the testing.

We are still doing the thing here at SCRM! 1008 and 1003 recently got thorough cleanings and 1003 should be returning to service soon.

In the meantime, LA MTA 144 invites you to come ride!

Contact the museum at (951) 943-3020 to see what’s on the schedule.

SCRM LRV Maintenance Report Status Update - Mid March 2022

The SDMTS 1003 and 1008 are back in service after the close of the Winter events at the museum, and our overhead catenary system receiving an all-clear to run all the way back up to the north end of our main track. While the cars themselves don't have any operational issues, The HVAC system is still non-functional, as our contractor still has not allocated the time to come out and service the units.

The LACMTA 144 is also back in service, pulled out of storage from the Diesel Shop/Barn 7, and running for the first time in four months on 03/12/22 with the new elevated loading platform, which was successful and much more convenient than the previous platform. Special thanks to Andrew Temoshek and Gary Starre for providing the new platform. No major operational issues with the car. Like the U2s, the P865 still does not have functioning HVAC, so it will likely not be able to run during extremely hot days.

If you would like to help contribute to these cars to see them running for years to come in the future, please consider your charitable donations to the following funds:

M26 - San Diego U2
M28 - Los Angeles P865

A new loading platform for the LACMTA 144 has been acquired for the museum and modified meet the platform height of the P865. This will ensure that 144 will return to revenue service in the new year. A special thank you to Andrew Temoshek and Gary Starre for contributing to the new platform.

Save the date! San Diego Trolley will be celebrating their 40th birthday July 31st! From 10AM-1PM at the E Street Transit Center in Chula Vista.

SCRM LRV Maintenance personnel will be there as attendees, on behalf of our members of the original fleet of 14 cars, 1008 and 1003.

The 40th only comes around once, so this will be an event not to miss!

Believe it or not, modern light rail was born in San Diego, a region more known for its freeways than as a leader in transit innovation. But it's true, the San Diego Trolley led the renaissance in light rail development when it opened in 1981, and now more than 20 cities across North America have em...

After the P865 trucks and wheelsets got dropped off on our museum grounds, we placed them onto a small piece of rail where they will sit until they are needed in the following years to come. Some of these are brand new, thanks to Metro!

Another successful day at LA Metro's Division 11 Metro Blue Line Railyard in Long Beach, CA. We got two semi trailers plus Byron Brainard's trailer full of spare P865 parts that were generously donated to us for salvage by the LACMTA from the Vehicle Shop floor and mezzanine level. These parts have been shipped off to SCRM to be stored until they are needed in the future on our P865, number 144.

Special thanks to the following for their hard work and great help:

Byron Brainard
Matthew Velazquez
Kerry Chen
Andrew Temoshek
Katelyn Witchey
Brice Brummett

If you would like to donate to the LA Metro P865 directly, please consider a generous donation to fund M28. These contributions help us greatly in ensuring the 144 will continue to run for generations to enjoy.
