Philly Foodworks

Philly Foodworks Philly's most flexible CSA, with options to meet everyone's needs. The percent of each dollar spent on food that reaches the producer has decreased.

Throughout the past fifty years the mainstream food production system in America has promoted the consolidation of land, money and power; encouraging fewer producers with greater scale and less cultural, environmental, and crop diversity. Competitive economics has pushed smaller farms and our food further from city borders, while requiring new ways, often unhealthy, to preserve and transport this

far off food. The agricultural trend has been one directional for much of the last one hundred years, decreasing in the number of farms, farmers and total acreage of farm land. We realize connecting the producer and consumer is a powerful way to preserve farm land and production practices deemed good for people and society. We also believe this movement must not be exclusive. We seek to find creative solutions to make this food accessible, regardless of location or income, because all people deserve good food and ultimately our struggle is easier together than apart. We want to connect new and old generations of farmers and entrepreneurs with consumers that care about protecting the regional economic and cultural vibrancy that small producers create.

Here's the second installment featuring producers from Philadelphia! The term "Local" refers to being sourced within a 150-mile distance from where you are. Yet, the majority of our offerings are obtained from a more limited area, specifically within 75 miles of our warehouse. The producers highlighted here are even closer, as they produce their products within Philadelphia's boundaries, making them genuinely hyperlocal.

We're excited to announce our partnership with Mother Compost, a local composting service that helps households across our region keep food scraps out of landfills and return those nutrients to the soil. 🌱

Mother Compost is a small, values-driven team based in the Main Line area. They process everything locally at Linvilla Orchards, meaning your food scraps don’t travel far. They are transformed into compost nearby and used to enrich soil right here in southeastern PA. 🌾

If you're in the Main Line area and haven’t started using Mother Compost yet, sign up at the link in our bio! New customers can enjoy a free trial month of service and a complimentary bag of compost to use in your garden or around your home.

Our passion for strawberries 🍓 is truly beyond words. The start of the local fruit season has been challenged by a late frost, leading many farmers to anticipate a staggering 80% loss of their fruit crops. Nevertheless, we’re making the most of the situation and savoring every moment with these delicious berries. Be sure to indulge in the joy of fresh, local strawberries while they’re still available!

A crucial aspect of our commitment to sustainability 🌎 involves minimizing waste. Any fruits or vegetables that are overly bruised, wilted, or damaged and cannot be included in orders or donated at week’s end are composted. John from Winding Lane Farm transforms this discarded produce into compost, enriching his soil in the process. 🌱

"Local" is defined as being within a 150-mile radius of your location. However, most of our products are sourced from within 75 miles of our warehouse. The producers we're highlighting here are even closer, as they craft their goods within Philadelphia's city limits, making them truly hyperlocal.
