Sometimes the biggest step forward starts with pushing past your own doubts.

I'm proud to spotlight my coworker Karen Lake, a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician, who first became interested in maintenance helping her dad at home. In 2017, she saw an ad for diesel tech school, applied that night and started the next week.

Getting into a hands-on field can feel intimidating, especially when you're still building confidence. Karen stayed open-minded, learning as she went and figuring things out one step at a time. Those early moments of uncertainty are now part of a journey that’s still growing every day.

What helped you push through self-doubt?

Some of the most valuable benchmarking insights go beyond cost.

In my experience, the organizations that focus exclusively on rates may overlook service issues that create hidden costs elsewhere.

This blog walks through the best benchmarking insights, revealing how cost-saving opportunities along with service trade-offs, carrier performance risks, network improvement areas and paths to long-term resilience support shippers.

I've seen how effective benchmarking helps organizations through evaluating competing factors, balancing transportation spend, service and reliability and risk and carrier quality.

How is AI changing supply chain decision-making today?

As someone who works in the industry, I’m always interested in how technology is shaping the way supply chain decisions are made.

I really enjoyed hearing Rodney Cromwell and Michael Kukiela discuss the evolving role of AI in supply chain management, how adoption varies among shippers and what supply chain leaders should consider as AI capabilities continue to evolve.

What I appreciate about conversations like this is the focus on real-world experience. Whether you're just beginning your AI journey or exploring how to advance your strategy, reliable insights can help bring greater clarity to where AI fits within supply chain operations.

Have you thought about becoming an owner-operator or doing business with a new carrier?

I recommend attending Schneider’s nationwide virtual Q&A to learn what it’s like to contract on as a new or experienced owner-operator. You'll hear from recruiters Orlando and Sade on how our FreightPower® load board, equipment options and discounts program can support you on the road.

It’s a great opportunity to hear more about owner-operator opportunities and explore what the next step could look like.

Freight doesn’t wait, and I've seen how uncertainty can slow everything down.

Different supply chains call for different transportation strategies.

Whether you're moving freight through brokerage, long-haul trucking, expedited transportation or port drayage, I've seen how each solution is designed to support specific shipping requirements, timelines and network needs.

From my perspective, real-time shipment visibility, connected transportation planning and consistent operational processes can help keep freight moving from origin to destination while reducing some of the guesswork that comes with managing freight.

I’ve noticed capacity can seem steady—until the market shifts and trucks get harder to find.

The way I look at this truckload setup is pretty simple—it’s built around a dedicated fleet that’s already out there moving 12,400 tractors and 52,000 trackable trailers.

Instead of piecing capacity together load by load, it’s all part of one connected network that’s already in motion. From what I’ve seen, this helps support a more reliable day-to-day flow for freight

If you’re used to adjusting plans as capacity tightens or trying to lock things in during uncertain markets, this kind of setup can feel more predictable.

Take a look at how this network operates when capacity becomes harder to find: http://sndr.pro/73

After years in this industry, I can tell you cargo theft isn't just a physical security issue anymore.

I've recently read how today's fastest-growing threats often begin digitally, making early validation and stronger oversight essential to protecting freight. Modern freight fraud relies on control of the transaction, not just the cargo.

I know how the stakes continue to rise. Industry estimates put the cost of cargo theft as high as $6.6 billion annually, with average shipment values increasing as criminals target higher-value loads. Even as these threats grow more sophisticated, I still see many incidents happen because of breakdowns in process.

For shippers, the impact extends beyond financial loss. Every disrupted load carries downstream consequences for operations, customer commitments and brand trust—raising the stakes for responsible, proactive risk management across the supply chain.

I always enjoy seeing throwbacks like this from our drivers.

Paul Bicket shared these from his early days at Schneider — moving from his first truck to his second while teaming with Dennis Stevens.

It’s a great reminder that a driving career is built over time, mile by mile. Having reliable opportunities to grow, gain experience and keep progressing is what turns those early days into long-term careers.

Stories like this are what make me proud to be part of a team that supports drivers for the long haul.

🚛 For the drivers out here this week

One of my favorite parts of the week was seeing drivers get a chance to step away from the road and spend time together.

The cookouts and giveaways were fun, but the conversations stood out most to me. Seeing drivers share stories, catch up with each other and take a well-earned break was a good reminder of the people behind the miles. I'm grateful for everything drivers do, day in and day out, to keep freight moving reliably through all kinds of conditions.

Who is a driver you'd like to recognize or thank this week?

This Labor Day is about you and every mile you move 🙌

Early mornings. Long hauls. The kind of grit that never asks for a spotlight. That's what shows up out here every day.

The miles add up quiet. No applause at the truck stop, no crowd waiting at the dock. Just reliable drivers doing the work, backing each other up and getting the load there. That steady effort keeps things moving for the rest of us. Today's a good day to slow down and appreciate it.

Give a shoutout to a driver you respect.
