I have a number of clients preparing for international travel over the next couple of months, and understandably, many have been asking about the jet fuel shortage. At this point, the situation is similar to what we experienced during the pandemic—there isn’t a single, clear-cut answer.
Conditions are evolving quickly, so each case will need to be addressed individually as new information becomes available. For now, the best approach is to stay informed and remain flexible, as circumstances can change on short notice.
If schedules allow, I would suggest planning to arrive in your destination as far in advance as possible. This way, if your flight is cancelled and the airlines can't get you to your destination for a few days, you haven't missed the core of your trip.
One line I loved reading in this article was "For an airline to cut perhaps 5% or less of its flight capacity isn’t huge in the grand scheme of things". Yes, SOME flights will get cancelled but not all.
Europe may face a jet fuel shortage in several weeks, perhaps leading airlines to cancel flights ahead of the busy summer travel season.
