Travel PSA: TRAVEL SAFE!

Just came back from a beautiful Girl’s Trip and wanted to talk about Safety and Travel outside of the US!

I’m not sure if you all saw the story of the travelers being robbed at their Airbnb in Grand Turks but I feel the need to speak on it.

1. Can you travel outside the country and stay at an Airbnb safely? Yes, you most certainly can but be aware that there are countries far less fortunate than in the U.S. If you are a group of women or solo traveler I highly suggest you do your research on the destinations you’re traveling to. We tend to think that showing our luxury lifestyles and goods is accepted everywhere when you’re traveling to countries far less fortunate is the thing to do. As a group of women we have to be more mindful of things around us! It’s far less likely that it will happen when you have men traveling with you but still possible so always cover yourselves.
2. What can we do to travel safer? Registering your itinerary with the U.S. Embassy (link below)in the countries you’re traveling will at least give them your footprints of your scheduled travels. As many of these countries thrive off of tourism please know there are predators watching and waiting as well. Keep a copy of your passport in your phone, email and send one to your closest relatives in case of emergency.
3. When traveling check the travel warnings for the destinations you intend to stay. Many tend to overlook this but it is vital to your travel safety to know before you go.
4. Use trusted sites and read reviews on the places you plan your stay at! Remember, YOU ARE NOT AT HOME.. things can truly happen anywhere.
5. Always let someone know your whereabouts.. I don’t care how old or grown you think you are and that goes for the states too as things can happen anywhere. Create a group What’s App to communicate with each other during your stay! Check on one another and never venture off alone!
6. Do not travel without travel insurance! International Medical Insurance (link below) and back up money in case things happen. You just never know what can or will take place.
7. Do your research on local laws and law enforcement prior to traveling. What may be acceptable in certain states/ countries may not be acceptable elsewhere.
8. If you’re traveling alone or in a group know your insurance coverages and travel rights. I highly suggest all inclusive accommodations and for you to use trusted vendor excursions. If you choose to explore with the locals on your own you’re doing so at your own risk.
9. Pay attention to your contracts for your tenured stay/activities… notice most activities require you to sign a waiver that you’re doing so at free will and they are not responsible should accidents or injuries occur.
10. TRUST YOUR GUT. If things seem or feel off… do not question your intuition. You will never regret to error on the side of caution.
