Twenty-five years.

This photograph of my wife and me was taken in New York City in the spring of 2001, while we were chaperoning a trip with Pinecrest High School’s choral and theater students.

Behind us stood the Twin Towers.

At the time, of course, there was no reason to imagine that only a few months later those buildings—and the lives of so many people inside them and around them—would become part of one of the darkest days in our nation’s history.

Looking at this photograph today carries a weight it could never have carried when it was taken.

On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 lives were lost. Families were forever changed. First responders and ordinary citizens demonstrated extraordinary courage. An entire generation came to understand, in a single morning, how quickly the familiar can become history.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, we remember those who were lost, those who ran toward danger to help others, those whose lives were permanently changed, and all who have carried the memory of that day ever since.

We will never forget.

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July!

As America celebrates 250 years of independence, I’m grateful for the freedoms we enjoy, the generations who came before us, and the responsibility to preserve the stories that shape our families.

If you’re gathered with loved ones today, take a moment to share a story, identify an old photograph, or record a family memory. Those simple moments become the legacy we leave for future generations.
