Spent a few hours this morning battening down the hatches for Florence. First time inland with animals to worry about. Everyone has a space to hunker down even the ducks who have guest quarters in the garage.

Getting ready for shearing on Friday. There is a chance for rain so plan b is in effect. Hopefully the rain won’t be a downpour. Finally getting warmer weather even if for awhile.

Snowfall this year.

Snowfall this year.

Well, winter has arrived with a vengence. Below freezing for a week as well as about 1 1/2 inches of snow. Good thing it was powdery. Picture shows what is was like next morning. Very pretty but not so nice when hauling feed and water but animals are weathering everything fine.

The hardest part of having a farm is confronting death on the farm. It has been a learning curve for me. I always wonder with each death if there was something I could have done to prevent it. But it is not always the case as sometimes the animal doesn't always tell you they are not feeling well. As it goes with Eclipse. RIP you were a good father to all of your offspring, and a wonder of a nice goat. I'll miss you hanging out on your house.

Another shearing has passed. This one went quickly. Thanks to all that came as well as those who helped make it a success.

You know summer has arrived when you put up fans for the alpacas as well as having to hose them when you fill their water buckets.

What a week on the farm. First loss of electricity for 12 hrs from high winds on Sunday Then sleet and freezing rain on Monday and Tuesday. Then temps in the teens and then 5 degrees low with wind chills in the minus on Friday. The animals are surviving and are loving the sun as long as they are out of the wind. Who knows what next week will bring.

I am so ready for the to go away. A couple of nights ago got boot stuck so hard in mud that my foot came out. Trying to balance on one foot while pulling on the boot my glasses fell off. Now on one leg looking for glasses and not wanting to step on them. Gave up on the boot, went inside for new shoe. By the light of my cellphone, found the glasses and was able to loosen the boot from the mud with the help of a stick. I think the alpacas were laughing at the crazy lady. Mud go away.

Well, I just got used to the mud, when it froze solid. instead of sinking into the ground, it was like walking on lava. Now, it is raining and it is back to sinking in mud. the animals are confused same as me.

Well, it is the start of a new year. Temperatures been going up and down. One day cold next warm. The hard part is the rain and the resulting mud. About the time it starts to dry out, it rains again but the lack of rain is worse so not complaining too much. Good thing I have good boots as they would be lost completely in some spots.

Went out to feed the boy goats and it was dark. Threw hay to the young boys and went inside Eclipse's house to feed him and no Eclipse. He wasn't anywhere in his pasture. It was like an alien abduction. No Eclipse. I finally looked over to the young boys side and there he was. I don't know how he got over or under the fence to join them but he did. After getting him where he belonged, I had to reinforce the fence so he would stay on his side of the fence. Now, the extra noise from the boys is explained.
