(UPDATE 12:50 p.m.) - Silver line is back to regular service.

(UPDATE 7:30 a.m.) - Rail service is restored between Library and Lytle stations. Service is still suspended between Lytle Station and Washington Junction. Shuttle buses are running both inbound and outbound.

(UPDATE 6:00 a.m.) - Red and Blue lines are back to regular service. The Silver Line remains suspended between Washington Junction and Library. Shuttle buses are running both inbound and outbound.

(UPDATE 8:30 p.m.) - Red and Blue lines are now open and single-tracking between Washington Junction and South Hills Village.

(UPDATE 8:10 p.m.) - Red and Blue lines will be terminating at Washington Junction until further notice. The Silver line is suspended inbound and outbound between Library-Washington Junction.

(UPDATE 7:10 p.m.) - Due to the weather conditions all rails are at a stand still until further notice.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus and light rail service will operate on Sunday schedules on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

Customer Service representatives will be available by phone from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and via live chat from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. PRT's Downtown Service Center and administrative offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.

$82.8 million for light rail cars!

We’re receiving $82.8 million in federal funding to help replace our aging light rail fleet. This grant will support the purchase of 45 new 170-foot long light rail vehicles.

Thank you to County Executive Sara Innamorato and our federal legislators for supporting this grant effort.

If you've ever worked with us, you've probably worked with Chuck. His kindness and generosity were overshadowed only by his love and knowledge of everything Pittsburgh and everything transit. Chuck retired today after 30+ years as a bus and rail operator and, for the last 10+years, as director of special events. If you attended a baseball, football, or hockey game, a concert, a parade, a marathon or any other event in Pittsburgh in the last decade, it was easier for you to get around because of Chuck. His passion and dedication will be greatly missed and wish him the absolute best in his next chapter.

Yesterday, PRT held the first of two public hearings for the final proposed Bus Line Refresh network.

This event allowed riders to provide in-person comments on the new network to PRT representatives. The next public hearing is September 10 at the Heinz 57 Building.

Riders can also provide feedback anytime via phone, website, or mail. Public comment is open through September 30.

PRT is aware of an issue affecting rail service information being displayed in the Transit app, Google Maps, and TrueTime. Bus information is not affected. Our teams are actively working to identify and resolve the issue.

We will provide an update once the issue has been fully resolved.

In the meantime, riders who need trip planning assistant for using our rail service should contact PRT Customer Service at 412-442-2000 or on X (formerly Twitter).

Ridership is up! (For those wondering, the NFL Draft accounted for about 486,000 rides in April, or about 1.24% of the total 39.1 million rides this fiscal year)

More people are riding public transit in the Pittsburgh area.

Annual ridership on Pittsburgh Regional Transit increased by 5% to 39.1 million for the fiscal year that ended June 30. That’s the highest ridership total since 2020, but ridership remains about 25 million below the all-time high of just over 64 million in 2019, the year before the COVID-19 pandemic that was devastating to public transit ridership across the country.

The average weekday bus ridership in fiscal year 2026 was about 110,000 compared to about 177,000 in 2019.

PRT Spokesman Adam Brandolph said “it’s hard to say” if there’s any one reason the agency had a stronger year.
