Future aviation professionals cleared for takeoff. ✈️

Scouts BSA Troop 248 recently visited Pittsburgh International Airport to earn their Aviation Merit Badge through our Ready for Takeoff Program.

The scouts got a behind-the-scenes look at airport operations, exploring everything from the air traffic control tower and aircraft maintenance hangar to the fire station, snow removal fleet, and the new terminal's baggage handling system. Along the way, they learned about the many careers that keep our airport running safely and efficiently every day.

The visit wrapped up with a special presentation of their Aviation Merit Badges in the new terminal's baggage claim area.

We're proud to help inspire the next generation of aviation, engineering, public safety, and airport operations professionals.

Who knows? We may have met a few future members of the aviation industry. 👀

Pittsburgh International Airport has been recognized by Prix Versailles as one of the World's Most Beautiful Airports of 2026.

The prestigious international award celebrates architecture, innovation, sustainability, and design excellence across the globe. PIT joins six other airports worldwide selected for their distinctive architecture and passenger experience.

With a design inspired by the Allegheny Mountains, abundant natural light, biophilic elements, shorter passenger walking distances, and industry-leading sustainability initiatives, the new terminal was created to reflect the spirit of our region while redefining the future of air travel.
