How or Why do we say "Happy" Memorial Day? Such a profound day to remember and honor all who have served and given for our freedoms.
As we take this weekend to rest, recharge, camp, fish, hang with family and friends, let us all not forget what was given for us to enjoy this "holiday".

God Bless the Men and Women who have given so much for us to enjoy this messed up world we live in. Regardless of how bleak our future may look with daily challenges, economic worries etc... This is still the greatest country in the world and we must take a moment to remember and give thanks for the rights and privileges we enjoy because of their sacrifices.
God Bless America and the Men and Women of our Armed Forces

Informative info that we are all constantlty dealing with!

Brush up on your knowledge of EGT Sensors,

Q: What is the main function of EGT sensors on a diesel vehicle?
A: EGT stands for Exhaust Gas Temperature. The EGT sensors are responsible for reading the exhaust temperatures at various stages in the aftertreatment system and sending this information back to the ECM to maintain proper temperatures for regeneration to reduce harmful emissions.

Q: How many EGT sensors are on a truck?
A: In the aftertreatment system, it's common to have 3 to 5 EGT sensors, so the ECM knows when and how to manage regeneration and SCR operation.

Q: Are there different types of EGT sensors?
A: Yes. NTC and PTC.
NTC (negative temperature coefficient) sensor has a high resistance at low temperatures and a low resistance at high temperatures. Resistance decreases as the heat increases.
PTC (positive temperature coefficient) sensor the resistance increases as the temperature increases. This is the most common type of EGT.
Q: What happens when an EGT sensor fails?
A: If the ECU detects a problem with an EGT sensor a check engine light will come on. A faulty EGT sensor can result in other symptoms including:
Reduced fuel efficiency
Unnecessary DPF regeneration
Failed emissions tests.
Premature exhaust or internal engine component failure
Q: How do I test an EGT sensor?
A: Typically you read it with a scan tool; which is an OEM or aftermarket device that allows you to communicate with the vehicle's ECM. Ohm testing can also be helpful.

Q: What are some common EGT sensor fault codes?
P0544: Exhaust gas temperature sensor, bank 1, sensor 1 - circuit malfunction
P0546: Exhaust gas temperature sensor, bank 1, sensor 1 - high input
P2033: Exhaust gas temperature bank 1, sensor 2 - circuit high
P247A: Exhaust gas temperature sensor bank 1, sensor 3 – out of range
P0549: Exhaust gas temperature sensor, bank 2, sensor 1 - circuit high
P2031: Exhaust gas temperature bank 1, sensor 2 - circuit malfunction

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced that its International Roadcheck will take place from May 13-15, 2025,

Key Focus Areas

1. Tire Inspections – The importance of maintaining proper tire health cannot be overstated. Tire failure during transit not only jeopardizes road safety but can also result in costly delays for motor carriers. During International Roadcheck, inspectors will pay special attention to the following tire conditions:

Tread depth (ensure it meets the minimum requirement)
Audible air leaks
Flat or damaged tires (look for sidewall bulges or separations)
Improper repairs
Objects lodged between dual tires
A proactive tire maintenance program can help prevent costly violations and roadside emergencies.

2. Hours-of-Service (HOS) Compliance – Hours-of-service (HOS) regulations are in place to protect drivers from fatigue-related accidents. However, these rules are only effective when drivers accurately reflect their time and duty status in their Record of Duty Status (RODS) logs. Inspectors will be checking for the following:

Electronic logging device tampering (e.g., disconnected devices, improper edits)
Ghost drivers (claiming a co-driver when none is present)
Improper use of personal conveyance or other special driving categories
Incorrectly recorded off-duty time while performing work for a motor carrier
Inaccurate or falsified logs can result in serious fines and driver out-of-service violations. Make sure your team is fully prepared to maintain and present accurate records during inspections.

What to Expect

Driver Inspections:

Commercial driver’s license (CDL)
Medical examiner’s certificate
RODS (hours-of-service logs)
Alcohol and drug testing compliance
Seatbelt usage

Vehicle Inspections:

Brakes, tires, and wheels
Lighting, steering mechanisms, and suspension
Cargo securement and fuel/exhaust systems

Listening to the morning news reports on President Trumps first 100 days in office, I reflect on the uncertainty we are all feeling about how the economic times will pan out.

While not as excited as when he first took the election, I believe we are moving in the right direction as a country for our business.

I believe, like everyone in the country, we do need to firm up our attention to detail. Focus on the things that MATTER...Cost control, capturing revenues through efficiency and negotiating power.

As small family owned companies, B&R and all of our driver/contractors are equally responsible for the things within our control..... Below are some basic tips that we must all bear in mind:
COMMITTED TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR TRUCKING INDUSTRY!

SAFETY- there is tons of data on the cost and savings to be had through practicing safety. Besides the actual out of pocket costs of repairs, there is down time, legal challenges and on the front line; insurance costs.

MAINTENANCE- Preventative maintenance. Plan your down time, at a shop or facility that is convenient and provides the best service and pricing for the job. DPF system maintenance regularly before sensors begin to fail costing time, unnecessary failures and frustrating delays and expenses. Lack of proactive maintenance also impacts our safety score as drivers are put out of service at DOT inspection points- causing further delays. Delays = cost.

FUEL- Take advantage of the discount programs we have available. Run your trucks efficiently. Reduce / minimize IDLE Times that also contribute to maintenance issues. It's exciting to see the national fuel averages dropping. Not dramatically, but a little bit at a time... hardly noticeable until you look at the data.... Seeing the weekly DOE fuel report was exciting:

I have attended many CPR classes over the years, but was never told this…
When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then?
A rarely good post that can't be shared often enough:
1.
Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.
2.
You are really tired and frustrated.
All of a sudden you have chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like you’re being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or your home.
3.
Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it.
4.
Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.
5.
How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.
6.
But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.
7.
Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment.
8.
Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.
9. FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line, plus sudden fatigue.
Instead of posting jokes, you're helping save lives by spreading this message.
