This April, FHG Marine Engineering, Inc. was honored to be invited to join an intimate roundtable discussion with US Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz 🇺🇸 to talk through the effects of tariffs on small business. Despite Supreme Court rulings and public perception, US tariffs remain very much in place and continue to affect businesses and consumers across the economy.

With nearly 97% of US importers small businesses (under 500 employees), these policies run through the heart of every American industry, driving supply chain delays, frustration, and rising costs.

Sincere thanks to the Congresswoman for her support and kind thanks to the team at Ward's Marine Electric for hosting such a productive conversation.

It was a timely reminder that, by constitutional design, tariff authority rests with Congress—making continued advocacy and direct engagement with legislators essential 🇺🇸

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate our Apprentice, Jacob, on graduating from the Marine Industries Association of South Florida Yacht Service Technician Apprenticeship Program (YSTAP)—a rigorous two-year commitment 🎓⚓

Jacob’s achievement reflects real dedication and grit:
• 288 evening classroom hours
• 4,000 hours on-the-job training with FHG Marine Engineering, Inc.

YSTAP was established by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida in partnership with the Florida Department of Education and Atlantic Technical College and is Florida’s 1st registered apprenticeship program of its kind, setting the standard for workforce development.

Jacob has consistently shown the work ethic, focus, and drive it takes to succeed in maritime. We’re proud to support his journey and continued education and career in ocean engineering. This also marks FHG’s 2nd Apprentice graduate through the program—reinforcing our commitment to developing talent from within.

Tremendous thanks to MIASF Instructor Prem Lee Barbosa and Vice President Lori Wheeler for their leadership developing this impactful program 🛠️

Congratulations Jacob! Well earned! 🌊

🚨 Section 232 Metals Tariff Update – April 2026

FHG Marine Engineering, Inc. is closely working with our logistics partners and monitoring the latest guidance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), regarding Section 232 duties on imported aluminum, steel, and copper.

On April 2nd, President Trump signed a proclamation adjusting the tariffs on these metals, with the changes taking effect April 6th. Key highlights include:

•Articles made entirely or almost entirely of steel, aluminum, or copper: 50% tariff on full value
•Derivative articles substantially made of these metals: 25% tariff
•Metal-intensive industrial and electrical grid equipment: 15% tariff through 2027
•Products made abroad entirely with U.S. metals: 10% tariff
•Products with 15% or less of steel, aluminum, or copper: no Section 232 tariffs

In a moment where global tensions are reshaping trade routes and testing maritime resilience, perspective matters 🌎🌊

FHG Marine Engineering, Inc. COO Kathleen Hagan shares sharp insights with LevantIntel on what this means for the marine industry and those navigating it.

⚓💸 Rerouted and repriced: war is transforming maritime operations

War is no longer just disrupting shipping, it’s fundamentally reshaping how it operates, where it flows, and how much it costs.

As tensions escalate in key corridors like the Strait of Hormuz, vessels are being rerouted, insurance premiums are surging, and freight rates are becoming increasingly volatile. The result is a fragmented maritime system where efficiency is replaced by risk management.

Shipping companies are now making strategic decisions in real time, balancing safety, cost, and delivery timelines—while global supply chains absorb delays, higher costs, and uncertainty.

What was once a highly optimised global network is evolving into a resilience-first system, where redundancy, alternative routes, and geopolitical awareness are becoming core operational priorities.

The takeaway is clear: maritime trade is being rerouted, repriced, and redefined—with lasting implications for global trade flows and economic stability.

Some serious iron rolled into the shop today for reconditioning.

These aren't the kind you'd find on a yacht. Massive legacy medium-speed engine cylinder heads — the kind of hardware that powered generations of working vessels and keeps critical operations moving across the globe.

Tariffs and supply chain delays don’t have to dock your operations 🛳️🚢

To help vessel operators navigate rising equipment costs and ongoing supply chain challenges, FHG is now offering remanufactured marine diesel engine component parts for sale online via our new shop on eBay — all completed in our in-house machine shop 🛠️

By handling the remanufacturing process internally, our team maintains strict quality control while delivering cost savings, faster availability, and a shorter supply chain for customers. In many cases, this also helps operators avoid import delays, Section 232 steel tariff exposure, and other tariff-related costs tied to new components sourced overseas.

It’s another way FHG is working to keep vessels operating efficiently, while providing practical solutions for today’s marine industry.
