Good morning, I pray all our horse families are safe and warm this morning. I wanted to give everyone an update on my decision to not operate my carriage this holiday season. It is with great regret that it has come to this and Mae Mae, Honey and Sweety miss everyone. This is information from the Equine Disease Communication Center. There is 30 confirmed cases and 5 deaths. Parker County is one of the active counties involved. Please understand that the safety and health of my animals are most important. See info below

EHV/EHM Outbreak: What Horse Owners Need to Know – Data Pulled Nov. 26, 2025, 9:30 AM Central Time

A multi-state outbreak of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV) and the neurological form EHM continues to grow, with 78% of all cases traced back to one event: the WPRA rodeo in Waco, TX.

Here’s what we know:

🔴 45 total confirmed positive horses
🔴 28 neurological EHM cases
🔴 152+ horses exposed
🔴 5 euthanized due to severe neurological decline

Waco-Associated Outbreak:
➡️ 34 confirmed cases (78%)
➡️ 27 neurological EHM cases
➡️ 55 exposed horses reported
➡️ 3 euthanized
➡️ Cases now spread to 8 states: TX, OK, AZ, WA, CO, SD, NM, LA

Non-Waco Cases:
➡️ 11 confirmed cases
➡️ 1 neurological case
➡️ 97 exposed horses (primarily from one private facility outbreak)
➡️ Found in: Ohio, PA, MT, WI, MD, and Alberta & Ontario (Canada)
➡️ 2 euthanized

Why This Outbreak Matters:
This is now considered a mass-spreader event. The high rate of neurological cases (EHM) highlights the need for strict biosecurity at upcoming equine events, no matter the discipline.

What Owners Should Do
✔ Isolate new/returning horses for 21 days
✔ Don’t share buckets, tack, or equipment
✔ Disinfect stalls, trailers, and shared spaces
✔ Monitor temperatures daily
✔ Contact your vet immediately if you spot symptoms
✔ Remember: Vaccination helps reduce severity but does NOT fully prevent the neurological form (EHM)

If you travel, show, board, or haul horses—you need to be alert right now. Will continue to update as states release new information and EDCC updates their reports on their website.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to cancel all carriage rides in downtown Mineral Wells and Weatherford for the next few weeks until the threat of this EHV-1 has ran its course and the threat of my horses getting infected is over. I will keep everyone up to date. But for now No Carriage rides anywhere.
