Men who say a woman’s place is in the kitchen don’t comprehend that’s where the knives are!

Sooooo! I went to KFC last night and asked for a 4 piece meal with a leg. The lady behind the counter said what side.

I said, “I don’t know, I guess the right side what’s the difference?”

She just smiled and said, “No Hunny, mashed potatoes or Cole slaw or macaroni and cheese!”

Now I gotta find a new place to eat!

Today we pause to remember FDNY firefighter Terence McShane, who made the ultimate sacrifice to the people of the City of New York, September 11th, 2001.

The life of Terence McShane, so full and so brief, could be measured by his friendships. There were the buddies from Sts. Cyril and Methodius parish, St. Anthony's High School, lifeguarding, Siena College, rugby, his decade as a New York police officer, and the two years he spent as a city firefighter.

"Terence was still friendly with guys he went to nursery school with," said his older brother, Kieran. "He'd bump into someone and start talking, and I'd say, `Who was that?' "

"Some girl I went to third grade with," he would answer.

What drew people to him? Maybe it was the way he had mastered the art of drawing the best from small moments. Take one of his approaches to fatherhood: pushing a kids-packed stroller while in-line skating. Shirtless. Along Montauk Highway.

Mr. McShane, 37; his wife, Cathy; and their three children – the oldest of whom is 7 – had been living at a relative's house while their home in West Islip, on Long Island, underwent a wholesale renovation. And when he disappeared in the firestorm of Sept. 11, the Buddies of McShane banded together to finish the job.

Cathy McShane was back at the house a couple of weeks ago, preparing it for her family's first night there in months, when four men in uniform appeared at the door with the awful but welcome news: they had found her beloved Terence's remains. "I told everyone all along that I didn't want to come back to the house without him," she said. "And in a way, I didn't."

Last Alarm September 11th, 2001.

And today, on his birthday, a white rose was placed on his name at the September 11th Memorial in lower Manhattan.

Today we pause to remember Elizabeth Hirsch who died on September 11th, 2001

HER DAUGHTER WAS HER WORLD.

World Trade Center

After the death of her husband Richard 3 years prior, Elizabeth Hirsch, who lived in Battery Park City, a short walking distance to The World Trade Center, Ms. Hirsch took a position with AON Corporation on the 94th floor of the North Tower so she could walk her daughter Beth to school every day.

Ms. Hirsch would eat her lunch at her desk every day so she could pick her daughter up at school and take Beth back to her office until her work day was over.

Ms. Hirsch would put her daughter to bed every evening and tell Beth that she loved her, and wake her daughter up every morning with a smile and the words I Love you.

On the morning of September 11th, 2001, After dropping Beth off at school, Ms. Hirsch was at her desk in the North Tower when the first plane struck. Her office was above the point of impact.

We will never know the conditions of the intense fire and smoke that would cause Ms. Hirsch to jump from her office window.

What we know as she was plummeting over 90 floors to her death was that her final act of dignity was to pull her skirt over her knees so that the world would not see her underwear as she fell to her death.

And we can be certain that her final thoughts was who would pick up Beth from school, and who would tell her daughter that they loved her.

For 13 years, Madison Moore never walked alone.

It started in an Oklahoma kindergarten. Madison, a little girl with Down syndrome, was placed in a mainstream classroom

Two boys named Pryce Jackson and Kyran English stepped up immediately. They chose to be her protectors and peers.

For over a decade, they stayed right by her side. They walked with her through crowded school hallways.

They sat with her at every lunch, and they held her hand on field trips.

To them, it was never a chore, it was just true friendship.

The kindness went both ways. When Kyran cried over a bad grade in third grade, Madison was the first to comfort him. She saw them as her friends, and they saw her the exact same way.

In 2021, the three of them graduated high school together.

Madison’s father shared a photo of the trio in their caps and gowns. The beautiful picture went viral, inspiring millions around the globe.

Pryce and Kyran had fulfilled a promise made in childhood, acting as the big brothers Madison always needed.

Their bond is a beautiful reminder that the best kind of friends become the family we choose.
