Some trips get better after sunset. A glowing shoreline, northern lights, a clear desert sky, and streets filled with lanterns can be the reason to travel in the first place.

Night experiences ask for more planning than the photographs suggest. Moon phase, weather, light pollution, seasonal timing, transportation, and the location of the hotel all affect what clients can actually see. Even an illuminated city garden benefits from choosing the right hour.

We treat after-dark plans as real itinerary anchors, not extras added after dinner. That may mean a late start the next morning, a remote cabin, or an extra night to improve the odds of good conditions.

The Orient Express is now a ship. Not just any ship: the largest sailing yacht ever built.

Corinthian began sailing this summer, and the numbers barely capture it. Three masts rising 328 feet. Just 54 suites across 722 feet of yacht. Five restaurants overseen by Michelin-starred chef Yannick Alléno, plus a 1930s-style speakeasy and a Parisian cabaret at sea.

The interiors reinterpret the golden age of ocean liners with contemporary French craftsmanship, and the itineraries are refreshingly flexible: voyages of one to four nights that combine without repeating a single port.

The Mediterranean season runs through October, then the yacht crosses to the Caribbean for winter. First seasons of ships like this become the ones people talk about for years.

If Australia has been on your list for years, consider this your sign. Here's the geography quirk that trips people up: their summer is our winter.

December through February is Australia's peak season: Sydney Harbour on a warm evening, the Great Barrier Reef in prime visibility, wine country lunches in the sun, all while we're in our coldest months. The best properties hold maybe a dozen rooms, and they fill a year out.

The distances are the other reason to start early. A well-built Australia trip usually covers three or four regions, and the internal flights, island lodges, and reef experiences all need to line up — that takes time to plan well, not just time to book.
