Friends of Frog Ferry Pursuing the potential of a public passenger ferry service in the Portland-metro area

06/01/2026

What if Portland’s next big investment in connection, climate, and community started on the river?

Frog Ferry’s Community Ownership Model gives Portlanders the opportunity to help support a future electric passenger ferry system designed for the people who live here, work here, and believe in where this city can go next.

We’re excited about the momentum building around this vision and grateful for everyone helping move it forward.

One of Portland's most iconic bridges is turning 100 🌉

On May 30, Frog Ferry is excited to join the Burnside Bridge Centennial Celebration, a once-in-a-lifetime community event honoring a century of connection, history, and movement across the Willamette River.

The Burnside Bridge has long been part of Portland’s story, bringing people together through moments of celebration, change, resilience, and growth. As Portland looks toward the future, we’re honored to be part of the conversation around how our city continues building stronger connections along the river for generations to come.

Come visit Frog Ferry at the celebration and join us in imagining Portland’s next chapter!

Imagine a Portland that reconnects with its river 🌊

This vision from Shawnie Thomas, an architecture student at Portland State University who has been deeply involved in advocating for and helping visualize Frog Ferry’s future, captures what this project is really about: connection, possibility, and reimagining how Portland moves and grows together.

For years, community members, designers, planners, advocates, and volunteers have worked to help bring this vision to life. Not just as transportation, but as an investment in Portland’s future.

Thank you, Shawnie, for helping people imagine what’s possible. Visit the link to learn more about our Community Ownership Model and purchase your share 💚

This survey is an opportunity to share your perspective on growth, funding priorities, and how Portland should invest in the years ahead. The results will be made public and used to help inform policy decisions across the city.

If you believe in the role that river-based transportation can play in supporting a more connected, efficient, and sustainable Portland, we encourage you to include Frog Ferry in your response.

In Stockholm, a new generation of electric ferries is already in operation. These vessels are quieter, significantly more energy efficient, and designed to move people faster while reducing environmental impact.

They show what is possible when cities invest in their waterways as part of a modern transportation system.

For a city like Portland, with a river at its center and growing congestion across the region, this is not a distant idea. It is a proven model for how we can move more people, more efficiently, with less impact.

This is the kind of future Frog Ferry is working toward.

We want to start with a thank you.

To everyone who has already stepped forward as an early owner, your support means a great deal. This kind of momentum is what brings projects like Frog Ferry to life.

We also want to acknowledge that the initial portal experience was not been perfect. We worked through a few glitches and the process is more streamlined. You may now use your credit card to make a purchase, you may purchase shares as gifts for others, and please remember that your contribution is tax deductible.

Thank you again for being part of this early chapter. It takes a village!

Today is .

It’s a reminder that caring for our environment happens both in big systems and in small, local actions. From joining a riverfront cleanup to rethinking how we move through our city, we all have a role to play.

At the same time, moments like this call attention to a bigger reality. Portland still has work to do to meet its climate goals, and the choices we make around infrastructure and transportation will shape what comes next.

Frog Ferry is part of that conversation, exploring how river-based transportation can reduce congestion, lower emissions, and reconnect our region in a more sustainable way.

However you show up today, thank you for being part of the effort to care for this place.
