⚾ You don’t need a glove to make an incredible catch… at least not in 1867!

When Shawna and I attended our first vintage base ball game, one of the coolest moments happened when an outfielder made what would have been a spectacular home run catch…

Barehanded. 😳

That wasn’t showing off—that was simply how the game was played in the 1860s.

Watching the players compete using the rules and equipment from that era gave us a whole new appreciation for how much the game has evolved.

If you’re looking for a unique Ohio day trip, we’d definitely recommend catching a Columbus Buckeyes game sometime this season.

⚾🇺🇸 Bock Travel Day Trip Idea

Today Shawna and I discovered something completely unexpected—a vintage base ball game!

The Columbus Buckeyes play by the rules of 1867, wearing period uniforms, using wooden bats, pitching underhand, and (yes!) playing without modern gloves. It felt like stepping into a living history book.

Sometimes the best adventures aren’t across the country—they’re right here in Ohio.

If you’re looking for a unique weekend outing, keep an eye on the Columbus Buckeyes’ schedule. Admission to many of their games is free, and it’s a fun experience for baseball fans, history buffs, and families alike.
