Nevada Co. Depot & Museum Our mission is to preserve & share the history of Nevada County, Arkansas. Thanks to John Teeter, Jr.

The Nevada County Depot & Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit preservation organization that manages the 1912 MOPac Depot & Prairie D'Ane Battlefield Park in historic Prescott, AR. The Nevada County Depot & Museum is housed in the 1912 Depot in Prescott, Arkansas, one of Arkansas’s railroad towns. The Cairo and Fulton Railroad, organized in the 1850s, was finally built from the northeast to the southwest extremes of the state in 1873, achieving completion at Texarkana on the Texas / Arkansas state line in early 1874. The town of Prescott was platted out in August of 1873 and became the county seat in 1877. The 1912 Depot is the second depot in town, witnessing the heyday and decline of the railroads (though there are over 70 freights passing per day plus the Amtrak). Passenger service ceased in Prescott in about 1967, and in 1970, the Missouri Pacific Railroad sold the depot building to the city of Prescott for one dollar. The museum was renovated and reopened in 2003 for use as a museum after having served several purposes for the city. and Peggy Lloyd, the first curators, the Depot Museum continues to fulfill its mission statement of “We share the history!” today, housing collections on natural history, the Civil War, the city of Prescott, train history, and the history of Nevada County.

The day begins with a battle reenactment at 11am at Prairie D'Ane Battlefield in Prescott, then shifts to Historic Washington for programs on civilian refugees, military camps, and Civil War medicine.

Date: Saturday, November 7, 2026
Time: 11am - 9pm
Cost: Regular admission fee, parking fee required for battle reenactment
Spots Available: Open to the public, no registration limit

The Southwest Trail Migration: Long before the Civil War, the historic Southwest Trail cut
directly through what is now Nevada County. In the early to mid-1800s, this pioneer highway saw
thousands of covered wagons passing through daily, shaping the early economy and leading to
the creation of the county's earliest wayside taverns and supply points.

The McRae Family Legacy: While Governor Thomas C. McRae is widely known, his ancestors
were among the earliest pioneer merchants in the historic town of Falcon. They helped establish
the county's first schools and legal courts long before the railroad era shifted the population center.
Charles Edward Green: A prominent early 20th-century educator in Prescott who dedicated over
30 years to expanding rural public schooling and literacy across Nevada County's agricultural
districts.
