I can't believe almost 24 years have gone by since we opened FSI - Fleet Services Inc on July 1, 2001. We have worn out at least 15 trucks over the years, most of them reaching the maximum mileage we feel comfortable with putting on the road, in about 3 years. The most mileage we ever put on a truck rolled over 500,000 miles on a 3/4 Ton Ford F250 Diesel with a 7.3 Powerstroke engine. Best diesel engine ever made, but they stopped making it because of the stricter emission rules the government put into effect. Although the best diesel ever made, it could no longer be made because the 7.3 could not meet the guidelines. We have had at least 20 couriers over the years who retired from their careers and worked part time with us. Most all of them have loved the work because they loved driving and they earned extra money on top of their pensions and social security and they still had a lot more to give. Many had industrial backgrounds, so they knew the importance of getting a part needed for production or an outage. All of our couriers have been, and still are, eager to do a good job for the customers we are serving. And our customers have been wonderful. We have several who have been in our FSI family for over 20 years. They realize when we do a job for them, they do not have to worry about damage in transporting their product, getting the delivery there in time, professionalism, reliability, and efficiency at an honest price. Our goal has always been to serve our customers with the best service we could possibly give them and we believe we have and still are. We hope to continue serving our customers who are manufacturers, industrial suppliers, fabricators, construction companies, communication companies, and medical facilities to name a few throughout the southeast region. We have a great team of couriers working with us. If you haven't used us, give us a try, and leave the delivering to the professionals who have done this for 24 years with efficiency. Call our dispatcher to answer any questions you may have or to give you a quote at 256-341-0204. We would be happy to serve you.

America is changing rapidly. If you worked hard, you were rewarded. If you wanted to start your own business, you were able to and encouraged. Remember back when there were small family owned grocery stores. The place you bought your penny candy, where mom sent you for the can of tomatoes she needed for dinner or a loaf of bread. They are all gone now, taken over by the big chain food stores. How about the little family run hardware stores....where have they gone? They were put out of business by large chain home improvements stores. The local ice cream shops, family owned auto parts stores, dress shops, independent restaurants, and more. They were forced to closed because they couldn't compete with the pricing of the larger stores. They not only took away our small businesses, they took away the American Dream. Then, to make it worse, the large companies began to be purchased by larger conglomerates. Many by foreign countries, then online purchasing stepped in, and now, most of our purchases are made to online companies OUT of the United States. It was gradual, but it has happened, in the name of progress, but progress for who? Our once called "land of opportunity" has diminished in leaps and bounds, and I think it was because we were sleeping at the wheel and let it happen. In 10 years, we won't see brick & mortar stores anymore, everything will be purchased online and made oversees. Our production jobs are already in jeopardy, but due to become much worse. Think about the origin of what you are buying and is what you are buying jeopardizing the American worker? Once America loses control of its trade and production, what happens to the America we once knew? Where has the "land of opportunity" gone, who is now benefiting and who is in control? Remember to support small businesses. They are the backbone of our country. Most are owned by the baby boomers. The baby boomers built our country back after the Great Depression and the baby boomers have work ethic. I have had several issues with the customer service from large chain stores recently. They just don't care if the customer is satisfied, and their work ethic is not to be found. However, the small business will bend over backward to attain customer satisfaction and work ethic is still prevalent in most cases. Get the word out.....we need to maintain the America we once knew and not give away the country we built.

Twenty-three years ago on July 1, 2001, FSI began with a Nissan pickup and a Jeep Cherokee, delivering small parts to various manufacturers along the river. I had just taken early retirement from the paper mill when Champion was bought out by International Paper. I cold called all the industrial suppliers in the area, dropped off our brochures, and mailed a zillion postcards to all the buyers for the manufacturing plants in North Alabama. We would either make it, or not. If not, I would have to get another job, so, I gave it all I had to succeed. My late husband, Jim, and I trudged on and after a couple of months, we could see it picking up. One day, we were asked to pick up 3 - 20' sticks of pipe. We didn't have a trailer yet, but we came up with a plan and fulfilled the job. We had a boat at the Brickyard Marina and we had a boat trailer for that 24' boat. We pulled it out, and picked up the pipe, 3 - 20' sticks of 6" SS - Sch40 pipe to #34 PM at IP. As we drove down that narrow road between the paper machines pulling a boat trailer with the pipe in the "V"...... I heard, "Hey, Barb, where's the boat?" I just smiled, and we got the job done.
Then one day.....all the hospitals started calling, an avenue we had not thought of pursuing, and suddenly, we were also in the medical courier business as well. That was a God-send, and helped us bridge the gap until industrial jobs took hold and we were steady. We still do Medical, but 95% of what we do is industrial. Within 4 months, we had to buy a bigger truck, then a trailer, then a larger truck and gooseneck trailer, a cargo van for awhile, and even a little hatchback Ford that we used for very small things, and that car ran over 350,000 miles! Our prize truck of all time, was an F250 Diesel with a 7.3 powerstroke engine that they quit making. Jamey was driving it when that truck rolled past 500,000 miles at the top of Chapman Mtn. in Huntsville many years ago. Best truck we ever had. We really put the miles on our trucks and they wear out quickly in our business, so we are consistently replacing them as the miles stack up on them. Our trucks have to be in great shape because we are on a mission every day to expediently pick up and deliver for our customers. We have probably bought and sold over 25 trucks in the last 23 years and we have had couriers who were retired from their careers, work with us many more years after, and finally retire again with us. We have had some of the best couriers working with us over the last 23 years. Some have passed on, and it saddens me to think about them and how special they were to us. We have been around awhile. Thank you to our many customers that have been with us our entire journey. We are a company with work ethic. We do everything in our power to accommodate our customers so they are satisfied. We not only want to meet their expectations, but we aim to exceed them. And thank you to our fine couriers, Mike Kirby, David Bolding, Virginia Byrd, Charles Teague, & Hank Kimbrell. We couldn't do what we do without you.

AND Adison Milligan, Administrative Assistant

We also wish our Adison "Good Luck and Be Safe" as her last day of work in the office was this week. She is heading off to college this weekend to Troy University in the Nursing Program. Thank you for all your hard work this past year. We will miss you, BIG TIME!

Happy Holidays to customers and friends who follow FSI. We wish you all safe holidays and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. We all set goals for the new year to come and it's great to have challenges to meet, but they should be attainable. Some challenges are not. If you have not attained what you set out to do last year, modify your new goal and don't be so hard on yourself. Set your goals and savor the journey.

Many thanks to the BBB of North Alabama for this honor.

SERVICE IS THE KEY IN 23'! July 1st marked FSI in business for 22 years! We began our quest to build a profitable business on July 1, 2001 with a Nissan Pickup and a Jeep Cherokee. We could only carry 300 lbs. and within a year we could carry 3,000 with a larger truck. The year after that, we could carry 8,000, and the following year....10,000 lbs. We stopped there with trying to increase our load capacities. We never set out to run 18 wheelers. We never set out to run long distances. We never set out to be long haulers. Our principal objective was to run local transports within 100 miles and we did that and still do. But we also take hot-shots up to approximately 800 miles because that is what our customers need us to do from time to time. We work diligently for our customers because we appreciate them so much. They have helped us be what we set out to be, a reliable, cost-efficient transporter of just about anything. We don't move people or furniture, but we move thousands of pounds of supplies, products, and materials every year. We get companies out of a jamb when their machines go down by going after the necessary parts to get their production back up. We carry parts to companies that powder coat, anodize, and heat treat. We carry building supplies to construction sites, fabricated parts to customers, pumps to various industries, gears, gearboxes, pipe, fittings, you name it! We have even carried many things to disaster sites. We worked Hurricane Katrina, the Nashville floods, and the wildfires in Gatlinburg to name a few. We have run many miles and have stories upon stories we can tell you during our 22 years of serving hundreds of customers. And we have had some of the finest, most dedicated couriers represent our company. They have work ethic, are honest, responsible individuals that we can trust. Thank you to our couriers, past and present, our customers, our vendors that help us keep our equipment in good shape. We recently had our chief mechanic of over 20 years retire and sell his shop. Earl Walton, we appreciate all the years you kept our trucks going for us and worked us in so we could do our jobs. We miss you. Our trailer repair folks, our tire suppliers, and the list goes on. In celebration of our 22 years, fireworks displays will be seen all over the county on the 3rd and 4th!!! Think of FSI at the GRAND FINALE along with the 247th birthday of our great country! And if you know someone needing a great courier service to work hard for them, give them our number 256-341-0204. We appreciate you! Happy 4th of July!

We welcome Adison who will be working with FSI this summer in the office as our Administrative Assistant and hopefully will continue to work part-time when school resumes, her last year of high school.
