In late October, 2017 the first known case of the Carrier Virus surfaced just outside the capital city in New York. Though the Carrier Virus itself seemed to exhibit no visible changes in the infected, it spread rapidly through the host and did not respond to any available treatment. As a result, existence of the virus was kept contained and quite... at first.
In January 2018, under the veil of “finding a cure” a private military organization began testing and research to develop a variant of the Carrier virus, that would increase cell life in the host and promote cellular regeneration, in turn creating a “super soldier”. Their research inadvertently created what is now known as “Variant Z”. Variant Z was the most aggressive of the Carrier Virus variants, and in some tests took as little as 30 minutes to completely infect it’s host. Once infection was complete, the virus would appear to remain dormant with no adverse side effects.
In March 2018, a quarantine facility was established in a small town in the foothills of the Adirondacks. Patient Zero, and the others infected with the Carrier virus (and all of it’s variants) were moved to this facility for further R&D. At some point over the following months, something went wrong. Though all documentation has been destroyed it is believed that Variant Z, mutated and bonded to the original Carrier Virus and went airborne, creating the worlds first true “Zombie”. Those infected became feral, wild beasts, with an unquenchable hunger for human flesh. Extermination of these creatures proves to be a challenge, as the accelerated cellular regeneration caused by the virus allows the host body to continue functioning well after fatality. The bloodlust of the infected is so intense, that they will even feed on one another, and in some cases, themselves.
On May 25, 2018 a concerned group of citizens formed The Adirondack Zombie Hunters, took action and secured the quarantine facility. ADKZH used this location to set up a specialized response team, who’s sole purpose is to rid the world of the Carrier Virus before it is too late, and the planet plunges into apocalypse.
