After 38 years behind the wheel, GoRaleigh’s senior bus driver Monroe Watson finished his final route in Raleigh on Thursday. He is retiring after more than 3 million passenger miles without an accident.

Formerly known as Moore Square Transit Mall, the GoRaleigh Station renovations were completed to provide the station much-needed updates since its creation in 1988. The facility is now completely ADA-accessible, and improvements include a pedestrian walkway, renovated public courtyard, new bus lanes with expanded bus platforms, additional seating, real-time video displays, security cameras, and accommodations for new CNG, hybrid, and all-electric buses.

The design phase for implementing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on New Bern Avenue is underway. Approximately 3.3 miles of the 5.1-mile corridor would use dedicated transit lanes between the GoRaleigh Station, in downtown Raleigh, and Sunnybrook Road. BRT would share the general traffic lanes for the remainder of the corridor between Sunnybrook Road and New Hope Road.

BRT stands for Bus Rapid Transit. It's one of the proposed modes of transit in the More MARTA program.
