If you’ve ever had a stressful move… this is why!

One of my dear friends was ‘planning’ to move. I asked on a couple of occasions if she needed any help? I’ve moved many times and was happy to help her pack and put things together. But she’s from a large family and said they had it covered. Sounds great.

The Sunday before her move she had family over to help her ‘finish up’. I get a call in the afternoon, that they could use my help. Sure, I’m on the way.

But I wasn’t prepared for what I saw. Her family was there, but it had turned into a family get-together instead of a packing party. In fact, almost nothing had been packed!! 🫣🤯

The next day was the day she had to be completely out. Talk about a rushed move! I grabbed boxes and just started putting things in them. She said it took her years to find some of her things, lol. In the end, she was out in time, but at what cost?

Here are 3 things to avoid if you want to reduce the stress of your move.

* Rushed timeline - don’t wait until the last minute
* No clear plan - get rid of things and start packing things that you don’t use every day weeks before your move. Label things clearly.
* Wrong team - don’t count on friends and family who want to visit more than work. It pays dividends to hire professionals who care.

Moving doesn’t have to feel chaotic.

I can’t tell you how many times I paid to have the same boxes moved because I didn’t want to deal with what was in them. Years before I sold a business and had boxed up things I wasn’t ready to look through. I moved several times, to several states, before finally letting those things go.

We understand (first hand) that sorting, organizing and dealing with the emotions that those things can trigger can be overwhelming.

Let me share, 3 things that make a move WAY more expensive than it needs to be…

* Waiting until the last minute - often it can be challenging to find movers who have availability at the last minute, not to mention on the date you desire. Often we’ve been able to help when others can’t, but sometimes it’s just not possible. Don’t take that chance.

* Moving things you don’t actually want - yes, paying to move things you don’t want is not the best financial move. But we understand.

* Not having a clear plan (timing, access, logistics). It helps to lay out a timeline, working backwards from your move date. When to start packing which rooms, obtaining boxes, lining up the help you’ll need.

Whether you’re moving or not, Spring is the perfect time to clean out and clear out what no longer serves you and create a fabulous feeling home refresh.

But if you’re like many people we speak with, your biggest challenge may be feeling like ‘I don’t have enough time’! ⏰

Well it’s Anna to the rescue! We have some tips from our associate, Anna Ethridge, Professional Organizer with The Simplified Solution, that are designed with you in mind, even if you only have 10-15 minutes.

🌷 Spring Reset Ideas - in only 10 minutes to half a day:

✨ Small (10–15 minutes)
Pick one drawer or surface. Clear it out, remove anything you don’t use, and give the rest a simple home.

🌿 Small-Medium (20–30 minutes)
Refresh your entryway. Edit down shoes, add a basket or tray, and create an easy drop zone for keys, bags, and mail.

🧺 Medium (45–60 minutes)
Tackle one category like pantry snacks, cleaning supplies, or toiletries. Toss expired items and group like items together so everything is easy to find. Clear bins are great so that you can see what you have.

🌼 Medium-Large (1–2 hours)
Closet reset. Rotate seasonal items, donate what no longer fits or you no longer wear and create simple sections (work, casual, active).

🏡 Larger Reset (half day)
Choose one space like the kitchen, playroom, or primary bedroom. Declutter and sort first, then organize in a way that makes daily routines easier.

Small steps really do add up and help your home feel lighter and more manageable ✨

If you’re planning a move in the next 30–60 days, the biggest mistake we see is waiting too long to start preparing.

The smoothest moves don’t happen last minute—they’re planned.

Here are 3 things to do now:

1. Decide what’s NOT coming with you 🚫
2. Start clearing out storage areas (garage, attic, closets)
3. Get a printout (maybe enlarge it) of the floor plan of your new home. Label each room. Then as you pack your boxes, label them to match the room they should be moved to. Then everything ends up in the room it belongs in. This helps you and your movers.

Get on the schedule early—especially for weekends.

Whether you’re moving across town or across state lines, a little prep makes a big difference.
