Take the stress out of your summer travel! Make sure you’ve got an acceptable form of ID, like a REAL ID or a passport.

Don’t try this at home! This moment, captured in the 1940s, shows Red Bluff flight pilot, flight instructor, crop duster and daredevil Chester Edwin "Chet" Derby flying his aircraft under the Market Street Bridge.

While Chet was a local legend known for this maneuver and a similar one under the Antelope Boulevard Bridge in Red Bluff, he rose to worldwide fame after a photo of a near mid-air collision in 1949 at an Oakland air show. Bill Crouch of the Oakland Tribune captured Chet flying upside down, under the wings of one of three B-29 Superfortresses that had arrived ahead of schedule. Chet's plane was said to come within five feet of the other aircraft - a narrow escape forever immortalized on camera.

That image was featured in Life Magazine and other newspapers around the world, garnering a Pulitzer Prize for Crouch in 1950 and securing Chet Derby's place as an ace stunt pilot and a legend.

If it's your first time traveling with kids or if it's been a while since the last time, here are a few reminders from the Transportation Security Administration - TSA.

If you’re traveling with your kiddos for the first time and have questions about going through security, here’s some info that might help.

✅ Children will not be separated from their parent or guardian.
✅ Under the new “shoes-on” changes, all travelers can leave their shoes on.
✅ Be sure to remove infants and children from strollers or car seats and carry them in your arms through the walk-through metal detector.
✅ Place all items such as bags, blankets, strollers, or booster seats on the X-ray belt for screening.
✅ Modified screening procedures have been put in place to reduce likelihood of a pat down.
✅ Dedicated family lanes are available at select airports across the country through our “families on the fly” initiative.

Last week’s Triennial Exercise at Redding Regional Airport was a success. This full-scale emergency simulation brought together airport staff, first responders, and volunteers to train for a potential aircraft incident.

We’re proud of the strong coordination and teamwork on display and grateful for the valuable feedback that will help us continue improving. While we hope to never face a real-world emergency, preparedness like this is critical. Thank you to all who participated and helped keep RDD ready.
