This Hispano-Suiza H6C Tulipwood “Torpedo” on display at the Portola Hotel on Thursday before it crossed the RM Sotheby’s auction stage to go to its new home. I am unfamiliar with Hispano-Suiza’s but happened to see one at the Tour D’Elegance earlier that morning (last photo), and was interested to see this beautiful stunning car later that day. The body is mahogany wood and is stunning. Estimated to sell for between $8,000,000 and $12,000,000, the final hammer was $8.4. Hope to see this one on the lawn at Pebble Beach in the future.

Yesterday at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, I was blown away by the display honoring the 100th Anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Many many overall winning cars on display as well as multiple class winners and other significant cars. Here is the Mercedes Benz 1952 Type 194. This car was the first German car to win Le Mans and the only Mercedes to win Le Mans. This car introduced the infamous gull wing. Wow. Over fifty cars on display, each one more impressive than the next. Bravo!

Two Guns is closing their original Goat Hill store next weekend! Two Guns Espresso makes THE BEST flat whites. Their breakfast burritos and sandwiches are pretty tasty too, but really the espresso is the superstar. Visit them at their original location up through Sunday, Aug. 21 and discover the best flat white in the South Bay. After that, fear not, they have locations in Hermosa, North Manhattan Beach, and El Segundo.

Attended the Phillips 66 Seimming Nationals today in Irvine. After the day’s events ended, I got an autograph and selfie with Kieran Smith (Olympic bronze medalist and best first name ever), and I met Rowdy Gaines and told him how much I enjoy hearing him call swimming for the Olympics. His love of the sport is infectious. The women’s 400 IM final was a great race with one of the all-time great swimmers Katie Ledecky edging out Leah Smith. And then another legendary Team USA Olympian Janet Evans helped present the medals. Also spotted during the Men’s 400 IM medal presentation - legendary swim coach John Urbanchek.

By the time we arrived at Scuderia Southwest’s Cars and Coffee this morning, there were only a few cars remaining … but one was this gorgeous Maserati Ghibli. The paint color is lovely but I swooned over this original interior.

Watching the start of the and remembering when we visited the track several years ago and were able to kneel down and kiss the bricks at the start/finish line. We happened to be there the day the Borg-Warner Trophy with Alexander Rossi’s face on it was unveiled (Rossi won the race earlier that year, 2016). We are watching the race at home today - hopefully some day we will return and watch the race in person!

Eleven years ago I was leading a trip to Vietnam with an extension to Cambodia. It was the first, and so far only, time I haven’t been in the 🇺🇸 for Thanksgiving. I loved this trip, and I was introduced to and fell in love with Vietnamese food. I still keep Hanoi on my phone’s weather app so I can monitor the temperature there year round. This is at the mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh which we visited at the start of our trip. Maybe one day I can return to this beautiful country, in the meantime I’m thankful I was able to visit there at least once.

After a year of no plane travel for me (2020), I’ve taken three round-trip flights in 2021. One of the things I forgot I missed from air travel was taxiing on the runway and looking out the windows to see what other planes were taking off or landing. When I landed at LAX on my United flight from Phoenix last month, this Boeing cargo plane was taking off. I got such a thrill watching it speed down the runway and then lifting off into the skies. Guess I’m still an even though I haven’t done a whole lot of active feeling the past two years. Does anyone else get a kick watching planes take off and land from the runway?

What are we doing? Not sure but I do know that we thoroughly enjoyed a bike tour around Sydney, Australia with Graeme of Bike Buffs when we visited in 2012. We saw so much of the city we normally wouldn’t have by only walking around the city center. Graeme also encouraged us to have fun - every place we stopped we posed in different fun ways, and when I re-discovered the pictures from our tour the other day, I couldn’t help but smile. Smile at the fun we had exploring the city with someone who lived there and wanted to show his beloved Sydney to us. Smile at stretching our legs, enjoying the sunshine and beautiful Sydney Harbor. Smile at being able to travel to another country and learn about its culture. Smile at the memories that stick with me from that fun trip. It’s hard to believe this was nine years ago - I’d love to hop on a plane and go back “down under” again. With the US opening it’s borders today to fully vaccinated travelers, hopefully we’ll be able to explore again soon. ❤️ 🇦🇺

Watching qualifying for the on TV today, it was awesome to see the huge crowds. We went to the first USGP at COTA back in 2012, and again in 2015, and while the crowds were big they were nothing like we saw today. These photos are from a Facebook post from 2015 - back when NBCSN aired the broadcast with the great team of Leigh Diffey, Steve Matchett, David Hobbs, and Will Buxton. Now that F1 is so popular here, it sure would be nice to have US based commentators again. Here’s what I wrote back in 2015: Fun times last night at pre-F1 activities. Fan forum with Massa, Bottas, Hulkenberg and Gutierrez. Will Buxton's bash with more drivers and we met F1 NBC broadcasters Leigh Diffey and Steve Matchett. David Hobbs eluded us. And there was Topo Chico everywhere!
