Do you have a squatter? We are here to help with our Eviction Services!
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has seen an increase in squatters illegally occupying vacant homes listed for sale or tied to probate cases.
A recent case in Spanish Springs involved a squatter who presented fraudulent documents and was later arrested for unlawful occupancy, housebreaking, and credit card theft.
"We're seeing an increase in squatters targeting vacant homes, particularly those tied to real estate sales or probate cases," said Sheriff Darin Balaam. "These situations can quickly become complex and even dangerous. We urge real estate professionals, property managers, and families to stay vigilant, secure their properties, and report any suspicious activity immediately. Our goal is to ensure safety and protect property rights."
Tips to Protect Vacant Homes:
- Lock all doors, windows, and gates
- Install cameras or motion lights
- Conduct regular property checks
- Post 'No Trespassing' signs
- Involve neighbors or property managers
- Call 9-1-1 or WCSO non-emergency dispatch at (775) 785-9276 if you see something suspicious
