Earlier this month, the Port of South Louisiana welcomed two groups of interns from Open Waters Louisiana, a statewide mentorship initiative founded by the New Orleans–Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots Association (NOBRA) and the Crescent River Port Pilots Association to open doors for young men and women across Louisiana to maritime careers.

Through its summer internship program, Open Waters Louisiana connects students with industry mentors and gives them firsthand exposure to the people, operations, and career pathways that keep the state’s maritime economy moving.

Accompanied by NOBRA’s Captain Steve Wall, the interns learned more about the Port’s role in global commerce and the wide range of opportunities available throughout Louisiana’s river, port, logistics, and maritime sectors.
