Position Overview

Gig Restart Solutions is seeking an experienced and client-focused In-House Counsel to provide legal representation and support to rideshare and gig-economy drivers who have been deactivated from platforms such as Uber, Lyft, and other transportation or delivery platforms.

The In-House Counsel will work with our driver advocacy team to evaluate cases, develop legal strategies, prepare court filings, represent eligible clients in hearings and court proceedings, and help drivers pursue appropriate legal remedies related to their deactivation and resulting financial losses.

This position is ideal for an attorney who is passionate about access to justice, independent worker rights, consumer and contract disputes, and helping drivers protect their ability to earn an income.

Key Responsibilities

The In-House Counsel will:

Consult with deactivated rideshare drivers and evaluate the legal merits of their cases.
Review deactivation notices, platform communications, appeals, contracts, background-check issues, passenger complaints, fraud allegations, identity-verification issues, and other relevant evidence.
Determine appropriate legal claims, defenses, remedies, and jurisdiction on a case-by-case basis.
Prepare and review complaints, answers, motions, supporting statements, exhibits, discovery materials, settlement documents, and other court filings.
Represent clients at hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and court proceedings when representation is permitted and appropriate.
Prepare drivers for hearings, including reviewing potential questions, organizing evidence, and explaining courtroom procedures.
Evaluate and document claims for lost wages/lost income and other recoverable damages when legally supported.
Communicate with opposing counsel, rideshare companies, registered agents, courts, and other parties as necessary.
Negotiate settlements and resolutions when doing so is in the client's best interest.
Maintain accurate case files, deadlines, hearing dates, correspondence, and case-status records.
Work closely with Gig Restart Solutions staff responsible for client intake, document preparation, case management, and driver advocacy.
Establish internal procedures to help ensure that non-attorney staff do not engage in the unauthorized practice of law.
Monitor relevant developments affecting rideshare-driver disputes, arbitration provisions, independent contractors, background checks, deactivation procedures, and gig-economy litigation.
Ensure that all legal services are provided in accordance with applicable professional-responsibility and attorney-licensing requirements.
Required Qualifications

Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and be an attorney in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Because court representation is jurisdiction-specific, the attorney must be admitted—or otherwise legally authorized—to practice in each jurisdiction where the attorney will represent clients.

The ideal candidate will also have:

Litigation, civil court, small-claims, employment, consumer, contract, administrative, or arbitration experience.
Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills.
Experience preparing pleadings and managing court deadlines.
Ability to explain complicated legal matters clearly to clients.
Strong organizational and case-management abilities.
Compassion and professionalism when working with clients experiencing financial hardship following deactivation.
Preferred Experience

Experience involving Uber, Lyft, rideshare platforms, gig-economy disputes, arbitration, independent-contractor matters, consumer protection, Fair Credit Reporting Act/background-check disputes, breach-of-contract claims, or lost-income damages would be especially valuable.
